Anyone who has taken or is taking progesterone during pregnancy PLEASE HELP!!

by colleen831, Jun 10, 2007 12:00AM
Hi!!
I was hoping someone could help me out!! I am 10w 2d pg and have been taking Prochieve gel 8% vaginal inserts since I O'd.  I have had problems with a salmon colored discharge for several weeks now and we have discovered through u/s that this is probably just irritation.  Last Sunday I was at the er b/c I had some bad pains on my right side and after a couple of scary days they discovered it was my corpus luteum cyst dissolving.  Well, about the middle of last week I was inserting my progesterone and found that for two nights in a row I had not inserted the whole dose b/c I would try to squeeze all of it out and it would come out before I had a chance to re insert the applicator.  I know on both nights I got more than half a dose but I called the dr's office anyway to see if I should take an extra dose and they said no I should be fine, but if it happened again to go ahead and take an extra dose.  Well, anyway I have had large amounts of the globby discharge for the last week or so and this morning I had a large amount of it again and again it had some that was a salmon color and it also had some that was a dark color too?  I'm not sure if it was black or brown it was just dark.  There was not a lot of it and it was only mixed with the discharge and it was just something I hadn't experienced before.  I was just wondering if anybody else experienced this with progesterone before?  Could it have something to do with not getting enough progesterone this week or could it have something to do with the dissolving cyst?  I had 2 u/s last week one on sunday in the er and one on monday and the baby had a nice hb of 171 and 163 and was moving all around.  I'm just scared this is something serious.  I should also tell you I only had it this morning I haven't had it since then.  Please tell me somebody else experienced this too!!! When I was experiencing the salmon colored discharge the midwife at my dr's office said she thought that my body just doesn't like the progesterone and it is causing havoc down there.  I hope that is all this is!!! thanks for any help!!

I had some dark brown discharge when using prometrium vaginally. It turned out that it was irritating my cervix to the point that I developed an abrasion. When the abrasion would bleed, it would mix with the prometrium, resulting in the brown discharge.

You've seen a strong HB, so I would just try to relax. I know that's easier said than done- I had two losses before this pregnancy, but it sounds like everything is fine.

I couldn't feel the abrasion, but my RE saw it when he did an exam. Prometrium pills have a yellowish creamy center, so when it mixed with the blood, the discharge looked like old blood. Because of my history, the doctor decided to do an exam, and that's what he discovered.

I used Crinone 8% gel for a while, and I would get the discharge too.  I wouldn't get it every morning, but I would get it every once in a while.  It looks like wet tissue paper right?  The first time I had it, it was a lot!  and I got scared, called the doc and he said it was because once you insert the gel, the progesterone gets absorbed and whatever is left (just a little dried cream) will be discharged and that's what it is.  He told me it doesn't matter what color it was, that it was normal.  I only got a lot of discharge maybe two or three times during the whole time I took it, the other days I would have little to no discharge. I had to switch to pills because of my insurance, but if you heard a heartbeat, that's a great thing.  I've had two other miscarriages and this one is going great, I believe because of the progesterone.  I am currently 10w4d.  Good Luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

You have made me feel better!! Thank you!! I was just wondering when you had the abrasion could you feel it and how did they figure out that is what it was?  For me there was not a lot of this brown discharge just a little bit and it seemed to be around the outside edges of the rest of the discharge if that makes any sense.  Did you have the salmon colored discharge too?  I re read my post and I made a mistake when I said that I have been having a lot of the discharge lately.  I meant to say I've hardly had any until this morning when I saw the dark stuff.

i am 6 weeks and 1 day pg today and i have been experiencing 2 days of brown discharge. I am on the Crinone 8% gel also and have seen the "wet toilet paper". except this time it was brownish. I have my first ultra sound today to see the heartbeat. i pray its a good one because i have been worried these past 2 days. I have had 1 m/c over 4 years ago and this is my first pregnancy since then. any advise on the brown discharge?? and should i worry?
