Are any meds safe during pregnancy?

by brynn03, Nov 01, 2006 12:00AM
hello Ladies,

I have a question about taking meds during pregnancy. I havent taken anything yet except tylenol. I am in sooo much pain. I am only 14 weeks preggers but i have a pinched nerve in my low back due to muscle spasms and such. It is horrible. I have it on and off when I am not pregnant and I ususally take a combo of tylenol and soma( a muscle relaxer) for the pain. I cannot take vicodin or darvocet or any type of opiate because i get really sick. I was wondering if any of you have ever taken any type of prescription med during your pregnancy. I dont want to take it all the time but just every once in a while to get through a horrible day. I also am so scared of harming the baby. Please help.

Thanks!!!!!!

I can see you really need something, My advice would be to contact your OB, he will know better than us what is really ok to take, what may be ok for some may not be for others

God bless and I hope you feel better soon :-)

I'm sorry I took one tylenol my entire pregnancy...root canal at 9 weeks...that is it.

I was scared to take anything...TUMS later in the prg but that's it...talk to your dr...someone just posted about oxycodine tylenol...sounds like the other posters say its okay.

I was paranoid pregnant...DH wouldn't even let me outside when grilling on a propane grill...LOL

my best advice for the back pain is to get to a physical therapist who knows something about pregnancy. do as many stretches and exercises as you can to minimize the need for drugs. i've got a couple of bulging discs and its best managed through stretching.

If you go to www.safefetus.com it tells you how the medicine is rated.

There are narcotics that can be taken during pregnancy.  Speak with your ob and they will work with you to find out what is best.

I had surgery while pregnant and they said I could only take tylonel.  It sucks to be in pain but you may just have to.  I know its hard :(  Sorry and congrats on the baby.
