Ashtyn's Neurologist Appointment.....Ugh!

Ashtyn's Neurologist Appointment.....Ugh!

Ashtyn went for his 4 month check up with the Neurologist. The doc says he believes that Ashtyn did have a seizure in December (fell to the ground, and lost functioning of legs for 10 minutes, then walked with a limp for 10 more minutes after that). He said that even though the lesion on the right side of his brain has healed, the damage has already been done and could lead to seizures. Also, the doc looked at Ashtyn's feet, ankles, and legs, and said that his left foot turns inward, and his leg also turns inward, and that is probably the reason that Ashtyn always is wobbling and appears off balance. SO, from here, the neurologist wants to see Ashtyn in 3 months and will do an EEG personally in his office. Usually we had to have them done at the Children's Hospital, but he wants to do the test himself so we shall see. The reason he said he is not rushing to do the EEG is because he can't treat Ashtyn for seizures if he only has one, and so he wants to give him time to have another one, so that he can take proper action. So, if anything seizure like happens again, I am to immediatly take him to the hospital and have the hospital call his office. I hope that this was a one time deal, and he doesn't have any more "episodes"! Keep Ashtyn in your prayers, and lets hope that nothing like this happens again! Oh, he also said he feels that Ashtyn's language will come around eventually.

Cheyenne, thinking about you and Ashtyn. I'm glad that the neurologist isn't writing off his episode and wants to look further. I also hope he doesn't have anymore espisodes as well! How scary!! How is his language progressing? Is he saying any words on his own? Brody will imitate our sounds but doesn't talk or say anything on his own other than Mama and Bye Bye. Lots of babbling though!

Cheyenne-

Scary.  It all sounds like the neurologist is definitely on top of it, but as a mom, "waiting" for another seizure seems so scary.  I dont have much to offer, just - I think you are doing a wonderful job with him and I have seen Jess's pics of him and he is a cutie!

Thanks ladies! I forgot to add that the neurologist said he wants to do other tests on Ashtyn's brain to determine if there is anything the MRI is not showing. One he specifically refered to is one that checks the blood vessels. I don't think he is "happy" with the fact that the 2nd MRI didn't show the lesion, and he almost seemed confused about it. He kept saying, "I can't believe they didn't find the lesion"....So, I thought it was good news that the lesion was gone, but I guess the doc has reason to believe the lesion should still be there. I don't know.....its so confusing. One thing I didn't ask the doc that I didn't think about until I got home was whether PT would help his leg. He has had PT in the past, but when he was evaled by the ISD, he didn't qualify for PT anymore...so, thinking about contacting the ISD again and seeing if the PT would look at him again and give me her opinion.  Either way, thank you very much for the thoughts and prayers.
