Ativan during early pregnancy...worried...

Ativan during early pregnancy...worried...

Hi all. Well I just found out today that I am 5 to 6 weeks pregnant.. I recently thought that I wasnt that far along yet.. Anyway, I have been taking ativan 0.5 mg pretty often.. I just stopped it recently once I found out I was pregnant. I am really kind of worried now about the effect it could have had on the baby.. I appreciate any advice on this. Thanks all

Jennifer

I was on a series of meds when I got pg with my oldest. I was suffering from PTSD and was on mega doses of Effexor, Buspar and Ativan. I also quit cold turkey the day I got my BFP. I ended up going into PTL at 26 weeks and my son was born with a hole in his heart. But both incidences were not linked to the meds according to my docs. The good news is that during the first few weeks after implantation the baby is not really attached to you via a functioning placenta, it lives off the yolk sac, thus reducing the chance of any passage of the meds.

I forgot to add, definitely mention this to your doctor and do not quit cold turkey. It had some serious side effects for me. The med companies have registries that you will need to add your name to in case there is an issue that arises. Your doc will most likely keep a close eye on your baby's development in utero and make sure when baby is born that their pedi is aware as well. these are all going on the side of caution, but better to be thinking ahead.

Good luck, I am sure you and baby will be fine.

Don't quit cold turkey. The side affects can be really bad if you've been on ativan for a while. When I was on my 2nd pregnancy, I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and had two major panic attacks and my doc actually Rxed ativan in 1st trimester.
