B-HCG Levels

by mchannell, Jan 06, 2004 12:00AM
I am 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant.  My HCG level on 12/30/03 was 14961. On 1/5/04 it was 28241.  I have a history of multiple miscarriages. I see my MD this week.  I know these numbers are supposed to be doubling every 2-3 days and peak about the 8th to 10th week. I'm concerned about these numbers. Has any one had a successful pregnancy with sluggish HCG levels?

I'm a multiple miscarriage person too.  I've had three.  Not sure if I'm having my fourth we'll just have to see.  Anyway I chose not to play the number game its just too much.  But with your numbers the higher you are the less likely they are to double.   For example it's easy to go from 2 to 4 but much harder to go from 15,000 to 30,000.  I'd say you are close enough.  Honestly I had good test results and bad test results, only to have the same outcome a miscarriage.  I decided this time it's out of my control.  I hope the best for both of us.  Your numbers are fine.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I had 3 before I had a successful pregnancy.  I had the 4th one 2 years ago and now am worried I am having the 5th one. Hope all goes well with you.

I am 9w 4d pregnant.  Around 6 weeks, my levels were 12,500 and 3 days later were 21, 601.  I cried when they told me the number because in 3 days I was hoping for more than double.  My doctor called me right away and said that he thought the levels looked great.  He said that around 6 weeks, it starts to take longer to double.  There is a website...I think it's www.obfocus.com... that says that it takes longer by 6 -7 weeks to double.  Anyway, a few days later, I had an ultrasound and the baby measured to the exact day of my pregnancy and had a strong heartbeat.  So far so good with me.  Your levels are increasing, so don't worry too much.  Maybe you can ask for an ultrasound to make you feel better.

I really know that I shouldn't post a question here, but I really just need to hear someone's opinion desperatly...  my DH and I are TTC and nothing yet.  We haven't been TTC very long, but my concern is this:
When he ejaculates, it isn't very much.  I know people often say how in every teaspoon theres so many thousand sperm, but very seldom is it even close to a teaspoon.  Can this affect us getting pregnant?  The friends that I have talked to about it said they really don't know what to say but they are worried.  He doesn't masturbate, that's not the reason for the "limited ejaculation"... I don't know why it's that way.  Can someone just please give me their opinion on it affecting getting pregnant?  Does the amount of ejaculation really matter? Thanks in advance!!

From what I have heard the amount doesnt matter, it is whether or not his sperm are in working order so to speak, maybe you can call your dr and discuss hubby having a sperm count done to see if he can indeed have children.  Or just keep trying, it doesnt take alot to make you pregnant, give it time and if in 6 months to 1 year no luck look into the both of you checking to see if all your parts are ok.  Sorry I worded everything odd, I am just not able to think "normal" lately.  I am thinking the "pregnancy stupidness" has kicked in. my bf never really had that ejaculation, sometimes less then a teaspoon and before he had a vesectomy (vasectomy) we'd had 2 secessful pregnacy(both suprises). i personally don't think that it matters in certain cases. he had a vesectomy (vasectomy) because we are so fertile and they just kept popping out, 2 is really enough.
i don't think you have anything to really worry about, it will happen in time. good luck to u, i really hope the best for u and your husband.

Thanks so much to both of you for replying.  You have made me feel 100 percent better.  It's pretty much NEVER a teaspoon, but I'm sure even just a drop would make all the difference if it made it to the right spot!  I know I am fertile, or at least I was.... meaning, I have a 5 year old son.  My husband has raised him since we started dating 3 years ago.  We have since gotten married in March of 2003 and my biggest fear is that for some reason I won't be able to give him his own natural child.  I've just had a bad feeling about it and we only started tying since December.... BUT Good news is, today is ovulation day # 2... so you know where I'm heading!!  :-)  Thanks again.

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and both of my level II u/s showed a healthy baby girl.  I didn't get the triple screen, I'm 26 years old.  I'm concerned cause at a little less that 6 weeks, my levels were 30,000 and I didn't get them retested but have thought about it later.  Is that too high?  Could the baby have something wrong like downs?  I am scared.
