BFing & Alcohol

Hi everyone,

I am exclusively breastfeeding right now and i was wondering, if i were to have an evening out and wanted to have a few drinks, how long would i have to wait to feed again?

Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks

I'd wait for an "evening out" until I was done breastfeeding.  No one really knows for sure the affect alcohol has on breastmilk or yourself since you haven't been drinking for so long.

Depends on how many is a few.....You will need to pump and dump.  I wouldn'd feed until I pump and dump several times.  Again, depends on how many is a few.
It's just my opinion that there's no reason to deprive yourself completely if you do it carefully.  I asked my OB and pedi about it and they say the pump and dumping method and don't get totally wasted.
You will get a lot on opinions on this subject but the best way to find out what is best for you and baby is to think how much are drinking and ask your baby's and your physicians.
Good luck and enjoy motherhood!

Thanks DollChina, of course i wouldn't go out and get totally wasted maybe just have 3 or 4 drinks throughout the evening or maybe less.
I would definatly do the pump and dump thing i just don't know how long i would have to wait to feed again.
So say i started drinking one evening at 7:00 and had 3 drinks between 7:00 and midnight, if i pumped and dumped my next 3 feedings would that be enough?
Some people have told me 2 hours per drink, just not sure if i could go by that?

Psyched, I also read that it takes 2 hour to digest one serving of alcohol.  If I have 3-4 drink, I would pump in between (yes in the car), pump when I get home, and pump in the middle of the night (yes you will have to get up), and maybe pump and dump one more time before I would nurse again.  I know some people would say if it's worth it.  For me, it is to spend some alone time with my husband or dear friends and family and let lose and relax for a few hours.
Again, this is what I'd do and it's oked by my own docs.  But people on here are going to tell you different things.  You will have to make your judgement base on your situation.
Be proud of yourself of what you are doing for your baby!
