BM's and Diaper Rash

BM's and Diaper Rash

okay, edward never really had as bad of a diaper rash as he does right now and i feel sooooo bad for my little munchkin. he is 13 months old. we switched him from formula to whole milk about a month ago. he started having frequent bm's on saturday/sunday and the rash developed sunday night. his bm's are looser than normal, but not quite diarrhea. he is having up to 4 or more bm's a day/night when he usually only has 1. before this, his poop was always on the firmer side. i can't figure out why they are so frequent all of a sudden and looser. he is otherwise fine. eating okay, no fever. could it be from the switch to milk? i would have thought that if the switch was going to effect his bm's it would have happened sooner, not a month after the switch, but i just don't know. could it be teething or a cold causing it? i feel like his rash is never going to get better if he keeps pooping so often and irritating it. i always try to catch it as soon as i can to clean it up, but it hurts his little bum so much! the rash is very dry and red. it is not bumpy or pussing or bleeding, yet. there are some dry patches that look like they could start bleeding any second. i have been using warm washcloths to wipe his butt and have been lathering on the desitin at every diaper change. is there anything else i could do to help get rid of this nasty rash? its been like 4/5 days with it. what could be causing him to poop so often? any advice would be great! thanks....

I watch a 16 month old little boy.  Right after his switch to milk at 12 months he started pooping up to 5 or 6 times a day.  Every day.  That became normal for him.  Is Edward eating more fruits lately?  I notice with my daycare boy that when he eats oranges or pineapple it is much more frequent and makes a worse rash from the acid.  Are you using creamy desitin? (creamy doesnt work as well)  I use balmex and even the worst bleeding rashes are much better after just one use.  Lastly, You may want to try to take a dry cloth to his bum after wiping it with a wet one to get the dampness off.
