BP

Hey everyone! I have not posted in a while, had a lot of junk going on.  I am now 27 weeks (28 Wed) and baby is measuring 30 weeks.  i am a type I diabetic (dr says that has a lot to do with the size).  On Thurs. my BP was 122/88 (usually runs 120/74) and dr said he wants to start seeing me once a week now.  This weekend, my BP got up to 154/98, i think from being in the heat? could that be why?? I have avoided salt the entire pregnancy (extra salt anyway) and this is still happening?  Have any of you experienced this?
Thanks,
Christina

have you had any extra stress or pain lately(you know, like hurting yourself)?
everyones blood pressure acts differently. most people when they are in pain the bp will rise. or if you are stressed or angry it will usually rise.
mine is weird if i get a real bad headache it drops. on thursday when i went to the doc. i had a throbbing headache and my bp was very low. however if i get angry i swear i can feel my bp go up. :)
needless to say try to relax and (in my opinion) if you are over heated thhen it will cause mysery and yes why wouldn't that possible cause your bp to go up.

If this is simply a one time occurance, and it was hot and perhaps you were overexerting yourself, I wouldn't worry an awful lot.

But--if you start getting swelling that SUDDENLY increases, marked swelling of the face and hands, headaches that won't go away with Tylenol, or vision changes, let your doctor know right away.

Also--you said that this weekend it was up.  Did you check it yourself?  If so, did you have your own machine, or did you go to Walmart or the drug store and use one of those free-standing machines?  Reason is--after you have been on your feet shopping and walking a lot and have it checked with one of those sit-down machines, your BP can be artificially  much higher.  Much better to have your own machine if you HAVE to take it outside of your doctors visits.

Also, if you take it at home, take it in a semi-reclining position after you have been sitting quietly for 5 minutes.  Used to be they took in while laying on your side, but now experts recommend the semi-reclining position at the "most" accurate.

Good luck, drink plenty of water and stay cool!
