BV

Dear Doctor,
I am a woman of 26 years. The whole year i have been miserable having burnings in the vaginal entrance and vulva. Doctors misdiagnosed it for yeast. Only 1 week ago i had the proper diagnose, bacterial vaginosis. I got the symptoms after having my first sexual intercourse. Doctor put me on clyndamicin (300mg) one tablet three times a day for 7 days. I have 3 tablets left to finish the medication, i really want to finish it but  this antibiotic gave me diarrea (diarrhea), abdominal pain and a severe and terrible stomach pain. I am very worried and want an opinion is it possible that this antibioic have caused a stomach ulcer? Do i have to get tested for stomach ulcer, i have never suffered from stomach. Another issue that im concerned about is if BV is permanently treatable or it will come back even if i am not sexually active? Why it happened after sex? An the doctor said the cervix looked irritated, is it possible to be irritated from BV?
when is the appropriate time to go back for a check-up immediatelly after medication or a month after? Supposing i had Bv for 1 year which i am sure i had, does it effect fertility? I am very worried and in pains and your opinion is very much appreciated.
Thank you for your time

This is not the dr forum, and I am not a dr but I can tell you what my experience has been with BV.  I don't know if you stomach cramping and other symptoms are related to the antibiotics for not.  I think you should call your dr and let him know.  There are other antibiotics they can give you.  It is very possible that the BV will take several treatments before it clears up or it could come back.  BV is basically an inbalance of bacteria in vaginal area. There is always bacteria there but it is a mixture of good and bad bacteria.  Sometimes for many different reasons, the bad bacteria is able to dominate and the flora becomes in balance.  Flora is basically the environment down there.  So you have too many bad bacteria and not not enough good bacteria to keep the bad at the right level.  Sometimes it can take a while to get and keep the balance back on track.  Whenever your discharge causes burning, itching, has a strong odor or becomes off colored (too yellow or green) you should call your dr.

I had the best luck with an antibiotic called Clindesse.  You take it vaginally and it only takes one dose to treat.  But like I said it may come back and need to be treated multiple times.

As for fertility goes.  It is my understanding that BV does not affect fertility unless it turns into pelivic inflamitory disease (PID) and causes the infection to spread into your fallopian tubes.

good luck with it.
