Babies Heartbeat?

by alaysha, May 24, 2007 12:00AM
Question... I went to the doctors for my usual check up today and he said that in two weeks were going to try to listen to the babies heartbeat. In two weeks I'll only be 10 weeks. Is it even possible to hear it then? He says that because I'm so tiny that we should but I have heard that you can't hear if until at least 13 weeks. So I guess my question is when did you guys first hear the babies heartbeat?

My Dr started out doing a couple of vaginal u/s and we could see and hear the heartbeat.  But I do know we heard the baby's heartbeat with a doppler pretty early in the first trimester.  It's true, it varies from person to person and the way the baby is laying in the uterus.

depends.... are you talking about U/S or using a doppler? I always had U/S' up until 19wks. I heard my babies heartbeat on a u/s at 7wks. As for just using a doppler. I think it varies.

I just went at 6.5 ( now 7wks) ) and the tech let me here
the heart beat, it was amazing. I had an internal u/s done.
I am quit small as well...not even 5 ft!

I saw the babies hb via u/s at 5W5D and we were able to hear it beating away on the doppler at 10W5D.  It is a beautiful sound.  You will love it!!!

At my regular doctor's visit I didn't hear my baby(s) heart beat until 12 weeks. I also am built with a really small waist. (5'10" and a size 5). So don't get too upset if you don't hear anything at 10 weeks.

With my first they (a nurse) told me I should hear her at 10 weeks b/c I am so small.  Well, they tried and couldn't find it.  The doctor didn't seem concerned but told me I could go do an US if I was worried.  At the time I wasn't....they heard it at my next appointment.

This pregnancy at my 10 week appt he got the doppler out and I was thinking, oh no don't even try b/c I wasn't expecting to hear it and knew I would worry this time around since I had an early miscarriage last June.  Anyway, on this pregnancy we heard her heatbeat at the 10 weeks.  I think it all really just depends on where in your uterus the baby is.

You may be able to hear it, but don't get to freaked out and worried if you don't.  I have had it go both ways and I have a healthy 3 year old and am now 34 weeks preggo.

I heard my baby's hearbeat at 9 weeks on a doppler. I'm 5'7 and pre-pregnancy 135 pounds.I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but hearing your baby's hearbeat especially for the first time is amazing! GOOD LUCK

It depends, 1st baby 13 weeks, 2'd one 12, 3'd they tried at 11 and nothing, had to wait an other 2 weeks, and this pregnancy i heard clearly at 11 weeks. It depends a lot. My friend heard hers at 9 weeks

I DONT THINK IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH HOW BIG YOU ARE, ITS HOW BIG THE BABY IS, IM ONLY 8 WEEKS 3 DAYS AND I WENT ON FRIDAY I HEARD MY BABY'S HEARTBEAT AND GOT TOO SEE IT,.....HOPE THAT HELPS

My doc didn't even try the dopler at my 11 week appt. He just did an u/s to see it because he assumed it would be too early to hear it. 14 weeks it was loud and clear though! :0) I actually do think size has something to do with it though....my doc told me that he never has any trouble finding mine because I'm so little. Who knows! Don't worry though....you'll hear it soon! :)

I was able to hear both my baby's heartbeats at about 9 1/2 weeks...10 weeks is when they can typically hear it, they told me it helped that I was thin, but I don't think that really makes a difference.

I have seen it through a U/S but I have yet to hear it on a doppler. So it was a doppler I was asking about.
