Babies first cold. What do I do?

Babies first cold. What do I do?

My daughter has officially gotten her first cold.  It includes, congestion, coughing, fever and sniffles. I really hate going to the Dr because, really, they never do anything for her.  I am always sent home to care for her, just the way I was caring for her before I took her in. So, how do I get her better from home? I'm freaking out about her coughing because, I was diagnosed with Asthma at age 2.  I'm terrified about that. She's 26lbs now and she's only on tylenol.  What else should I do?

I think at some point you can give IB profen but I don't know what age.  I've only given Jayden tylenol for the fever.  I think they have children's cough medicine, but check with your doctor to see what age she has to be.  For congestion, try using a humidifier with Vicks.  You could put Vicks on her chest or run a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with her.  The steam will help clear her up.  Stuffy nose or sniffles, I give Jayden some saline nose drops.  He hates them but they seem to do the trick.  Hope she feels better soon.  Poor baby, I hate when they get sick.

First Cold - Lucky you.  Eva had one real bad one in December and then a little one last week.

Anyway, How high is Soraya's fever?  You can rotate tylonel and motrin - that is what my doctor said but I found that the motrin is way to hard on Eva.  It got her belly very upset so I will never give that again just tylonel.  You can give that every 4 hours and once her fever breaks you can still give it for aggitation.  I would only give a half dose for that once the fever broke.  I have albuteral for Eva for when she gets sick because she has asthma.  It is only used as needed so her colds have some help there.  In December she did not have that and OMG her cough and congestion was horrible.  I had to the ER a few times because I thought she could not breath.  You are right - they wont do nothing for her if it is viral and you CANNOT give her anything over the counter except tylonel.  Saline drops help the stuffy nose and of course the sucker that they hate to pull the boogers out.  Because Soraya is 26lbs check on the dose of tylonel from your doctor.  I am sure she will get more.

I also would put Eva to sleep on a pillow so she was elevated and help her breathe.  Obviously you have to be careful because it is a pillow and it is a no no but it does help.

If you hear wheezing in her chest get her in to the doctor or ER right away.  That is a sign of something more then a cold and hopefully not Ashtma in your case.  But you do know because you have it her chances are higher?  My boyfriend has it and that is why Eva has it.

Good Luck - give Soraya a huge hug from us.

Sorry she is sick.  It stinks I know.  Poor little baby

:( I know her chances are high. :( It was/is my biggest fear since we conceived her.  I had it so badly.  I was admitted to the hostpital at least 14 times before i was in the 4th grade.  Pnumonia (sp), double pnumonia, collapsed lungs ect.. They even thought I might have had HIV/AIDS because of all the Pnumonia I've had.  I'm praying and praying that it skips her somehow.  I went through hell with it and so did my mom.

Anyway, I've been listening for weezing. But none yet.  Just congested breathing.
She hates pillows but, I'll keep trying.
How do I do the saline thing? The dr explained it but, I dont think they know how Soraya is. She doesnt even let me take her temperature.  She  a fighter!

My son is as well but Soraya is a little bigger.  Can you get someone to help by having them hold her arms.  It comes in a squirt bottle and you just put it in their nose and squeeze.  It will run down into their throat so she may cough but don't get worried.  Hopefully, she won't put up much of a fight but I think that's wishful thinking.  I hope she feels better and that she doesn't get asthma.  Good luck hon.
