Baby Aspirin, Metformin, and Prometrium

Anyone Dr. had them on these meds?  When did they tell you to stop taking them?

I'm on them, plus extra folic acid.  My RE has me on the progesterone (supp not prometrium) and the met until week 12.  I go see my regular OB next week for the first time and will be 12w1d when I see him so I will have stopped the prog (I'll run out that day anyway) but will talk to him about weaning off the met - I'm scared to death to go off everything at once!

Yes, I am feeling the exact same way.  I'm 8 weeks pregnant with twins and I feel like this is my first successful pregnancy because of the meds.  My current fertility dr. will see me one more time next week then I will go to my reg. OB.  However the fertility dr. wants me to stop everything at 12 weeks.  That makes me so nervous.  I've read some women still take the baby aspirin and metformin for a while.  I will check with my OB as well.  I pray we will both be fine.

I know the feeling...I've had 4 mc so the fact that this time around is going so great can only be from staying on the meds.  I am ok with going off the progesterone, I'm not sure if he'll take me off the baby aspirin yet or wait til further and I can go off the extra folic acid now too (it is for neural tube, that part is done now), but the metformin is the scarey thing for me.  That is why I think I'm going to go off slowly, maybe stretch it out til 16 weeks or so.  I'll see what my OB says....I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

With both my previous pregnancy (son born a yr ago) and current pregnancy (24wks), I was on Prometrium (100mg twice daily) for the first 13 wks.  He had me cut it to 1 pill a day at 12 wks for the last week, so it wouldn't just be a huge drop in my progesterone level all at once.  If you're nervous about stopping suddenly, ask your OB about cutting it down gradually... it doesn't hurt to take it a little slower, but by 12 wks your progesterone levels should be high enough that it won't matter if you stop.  With both pregnancies I am to continue taking baby aspirin until week 36 once a day.  I was told that the purpose of taking low dose aspirin (baby aspirin) was to prevent clotting issues... these can occur throughout the pregnancy, thus continuing them throughout.  The only reason they have you stop at 36 wks is because it can be dangerous to be on aspirin therapy if you go in to labor and have any complications/bleeding (because it thins the blood, you can bleed easier).  With my son my water broke at 36w6d, so it was a good thing I stopped when I did.

Prior to taking the progesterone and baby aspirin, I had 2 mc's back to back, so I know the feeling of worrying about stopping your meds.  I felt like they were my lifeline to a sucessful pregnancy, but my OB did confess to me that they are like Dumbo's "magic feather" in reality... I guess there really is no solid proof that supplimenting with progesterone or taking baby aspirin will save a pregnancy... that if it's doomed to fail, it will despite all medications.  But, magic feather or not, I sure felt better doing SOMETHING to try and hold on to my pregnancies after those mc's, and I have a 1yr old son to prove for it and another son on the way and due in March.

Good luck to you and think positive about those twins!!  Congrats!
