Baby Asprin prior to conception

by jhh42, Aug 01, 2007 06:48PM
Need some advice/opinions.... I have a 3 year old son and we  want to have another baby. However I have had 2 miscarriages within the past year. I waited the amble amount of time between the first miscarriage to try again and I indeed miscarried again. My progresterone levels/HCG levels were rising and all seemed fine until the ultrasound showed that the baby stopped growing a little after 5 weeks. My doctors say that I still have a 70% chance of conceiving and carrying a baby to term  since I was able to have a perfectly normal pregnancy/delivery with my son. I keep hearing about taking Baby Asprin prior to conception. I know it has something to do with a clotting disorder but has ANYONE taken it that doesn't have a particular reason to. My Dr. says that there isn't much recearch to support taking it but it surely won't hurt. I'd Like to hear what any of you have to say that did take it.

I had a healthy pregnancy over 3 years ago.  A little over a year ago I had a very early miscarriage.  I do have a thyroid disorder and my doctor did have me start baby aspirin prior to conception.  I got pregnant again 3 months later and took the aspirin until the last 4 weeks.  I now have a healthy 6 week old.

My doc told me as well that nothing has been proven, but they do recommend baby aspirin and it isn't 100% proven, but it wouldn't hurt.

I would try it.  It wouldn't cause any harm.  It is good for you anyway.

I do have a friend who has now had 3 miscarriages and no children.  After her 2nd, she started taking the aspirin.  Unfortunatley, it didn't help and she had a 3rd miscarrigae although it was a blighted ovum and her doctor told her it really didn't count as a miscarriage.

Good luck to you.

i had two miscarriages, was checked for all sorts of clotting disorders and everything came up normal.  my re said to take one baby aspirin a day and extra folic acid to help reduce m/c next time.  i did this (along with some other treatments, femara, prometrium, metformin, etc.))and it worked - am now 15 weeks.

my experience is as follows.
in december i miscarried at 12+ weeks. i had a d&c. my doctor knew we wanted to conceive asap so he advised me to take 1 baby aspirin a day, 2 mg of folic acid a day, and duet dha. the duet is a prenatal with the omega 3 fats and it also contains 1 mg of folic acid.

i did get pregnant after my very first cycle and am 30 weeks with twins. they are very healthy and big. in fact, if i go full term and they keep growing at this rate they will be between 8-9 pounds each(yikes)

when i was given the aspirin i got worried, i had alot of bleeding and needed a transfusion when i miscarried, so of course blood thinners scared me. my physician is a high risk obstetrician and said it is a common treatment that will often times get a woman through the early stages.

i did not get tested for clotting problems since it was my first loss. i am still on all of those meds and will stay that way for 2 more weeks. then i drop the aspirin.

Thanks so much for the advice. My dr. said to wait at least 2 cycles before conceiving again. I think I will go continue my prenantal vitamins and add the baby asprin. SO... I take the baby asprin even after I conceive. I guess it is safe to take while pregnant???

Thanks for your help

My doctor told me to take a baby aspirin and I also give myself Heparin (Lovenox) injections everyday (another blood thinner).  I had 2 miscarriages and she thinks that it could be something with my auto immune system and could be causing clotting problems for the baby.  I have joint pain and that is why they think it has something to do with my auto immune system.  I am now 6 weeks and so far so good.  It is alot of blood thinning, though, so I have to stop them a few weeks before delivery.  Good luck to you!

for me it is okay. maybe some doctors do things differently, but i know i have been on them since the beginning and am doing very well with regards to my girls. it has not caused any detectable problems, and i have had almost every test under the sun. i attribute the combo of meds i take to me being where i am. :)

best wishes

I started taking baby aspirin day 1 of my cycle...did IUI and my RE wanted me to stay on it.  My OB wants me on it until around 37 weeks..I too have a 3 year old then had 2 m/c in a row.they are really sure why I miscarried...but the baby aspirin is working for me and my RE SWEARS by it.  She said that it thins the blood just enough to keep a healthy flow going to the baby.

I meant to say that they ARENT really sure why I miscarried!  I'd say go with the aspirin...I think you'll see the benefits.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR ADVICE. At this point I'll try anything. I just hope I don't have to go through another miscarriage again. It is so frustrating since I had NO problems at all with my first pregnancy. Again thanks so much.
