Baby Dandruff... Yuck!

Baby Dandruff... Yuck!

My 7 week old's scalp is flakey and now it's sticking. I thought that conditioner would help, but it dosnt look like it did. I tried rubbing her head with a towl, and it dosnt seem to be coming off...  Should I use Heads N Shoulders?
She has had baby acne..But she has little pink bumps on her arms and chest, does she have a rash?

My friends baby boy had this and asked her doctor about it. Her doctor scratched some off the babies head and said, yeah, just use a comb to get it off when you give him a bath. She was freaked out, but I guess it didn't hurt.

Hello.  When my daughter was newborn, she had the same thing.  My Dr told me to use the Head & Shoulders in the dark blue bottle (seborrheic dermatitis shampoo).  It worked great.  I only needed to use it for 2-3 days and it cleared right up!  Hope this helps!

Oh gosh, you just brought back a flood of (not particularly fond) memories of when my son was an infant! He too had acne and the flakey, sticky "cradle cap" you're referring to for quite a while. Our doctor also told me to use Head and Shoulders but even so it took a long time for it to clear up, although the shampoo did help with the itch. (Baby shampoo made him itch terribly while he had the cradle cap, by the way) During the time it was real bad I remember taking an emory board and very lightly scraping (peeling, really) the flakes off with the edge to make him look presentable. I know that sounds gross (and it was) but if I didn't people would make the most awful comments! At the time I wondered if I was doing damage to his scalp, but his hair grew in just fine and eventually it stopped & his scalp and hair are very healthy now. I hope your daughter's goes away easier & faster than my son's :-) As for the bumps, it could be acne or eczema but the tiny bumps you describe make me think of heat rash, especially this time of year.

Both my boys had that as well, I would just use a fine tooth comb after their baths to peel it off essentially. I was never comfortable with the H&S or baby oil, too fearful of getting it into their eyes. Simply combing it out real good a few times seemed to get rid of it.

IF YOUR WANTING AN EASY FIX FOR THE CRADLE CAP MIX UP BAKING SODA AND WATER INTO A PASTE AND PUT IT ON YOUR CHILDS HEAD LEAVE TO TO DRY AND THEN GIVE THE CHILD A BATH AND WAS IT OFF. YOU MAY NEED TO DO THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES BUT ITS WORKED FOR BOTH OF MY CHILDREN. ONCE YOU HAVE GOTTEN RID OF THE CRADLE CAP RUB THE SCALP WITH BABY OIL AND IT SHOULDN'T COME BACK

I used baby oil and combed it out a wee while later and that seemed to do the trick I just kept putting baby oil in my babies hair until it cleared up probably.

my son had this same problem. i have bad dandruff when the seasons change, so bad sometimes even the shampoos don't clear it up. i now use a product by aveda called balancing infusion. when this was a new product it was promoted for scalp use, now aveda promotes it in their skincare line. the ingredients are all natural and it works great. so when my son had bad cradle cap i had tried everything and then remembered the aveda. it is a oil so once a week after a bath i would massage a couple of drops into his scalp. we did this about 4 times and then is was cleared up, and the 1 time a week was sufficient until the next week. so if you can't stand it any longer try the aveda, it comes in a little bottle for $18.00. let me know how it goes.

My nephew had craddle "****" REAL bad...here is what the doctor said.. wash the hair with baby soap/shampoo and apply baby oil or vasoline to the scalp, it looks real gros bad it worked. Also, if you wear hats or anything on the head wash it after EVERY wear because the what ever it is that cause the craddle "****" stays in the cloth and with just kep infecting the scalp. Also, wash the bedding every day also because the head is transporting the "****" in to it as well. It does take so time but it really does work. I did it preventively and so did my SIL and our neighbor's girl did get it and it went away using this meathod. Good Luck.

I heard that if you just use a small baby comb daily to shift/comb the hair on the head, that you can avoid cradle cap. Is this true?
