Baby Weights

My DS was 9lbs, 3oz at birth.  My OB is estimating that my daughter will be close to the same weight if not more.  I am only 5 feet tall and labor was very difficult.  To anyone that has given birth to large babies, were your other children also big at birth?

my DD was 8lbs 8ozs, DS was 9lbs 6ozs, DS 7lbs 4ozs, DS 8lbs 8ozs....I guess that isn't too reassuring for you, but just wanted to let you know they do vary.

Also my last was estimated a day before by u/s to weigh 9lbs 8ozs that is why they went ahead and induced 1 1/2 weeks early....and he was a whole pound smaller.

My son was 9lbs.8oz. at birth. I am trying for a second one now. My dr. did say that because big babies run in my family, my second may be bigger, so they will probably do a planned induction a week or so early because I had to push for three hours and had such a hard time delivering my first one. I have heard that generally the second baby is usually bigger than the first.

My DD was 8lbs 10oz, 20 inches. She was born at exactly 40 weeks, her due date (yay!) She didnt drop on her own, and I had dialated and was slightly effaced, so I had to be induced. My OB/Gyn told me if I hadn't been induced, she would have gone probably 2 weeks overdue and weighed at LEAST 10lbs! Oh lordy! I had second degree tearing and leisons in my birth canal as it was...a pound and a half more would have killed me! (Joking) The labor of a big baby may be a serious pain, but think about the bragging rights you get, and your fat healthy baby! :-)

I am in the same boat as you. My son was born the exact same size as yours, 9lbs, 3oz. I have my level II ultrasound today and they can tell me where this baby is as far as percent. My son was in the 49% range at the halfway mark and then he was born so big. They estimated that he was only going to be 8lbs. Boy!!! Were they wrong.

The weird thing for me is that big babies do NOT run in my family or my Husbands. My mom had four kids and I was here biggest and last at 7 1/2 lbs. My husband was his mom's biggest and last at 7.6 lbs. I didn't have gestational diabete's so we have no idea where the size came from.

My DH was 10 1/2 pounds when he was born so I truly hope my baby's birthweight comes from my side of the family. SOmetimes 7 1/2 pounds sounds wonderful to me. I am 34 weeks now so it coming fast.

my dh was 12lbs and 24" long when he was born (and believe it or not my dear mother in law had no pain medication.  her husband was in the marines so she had to go to the hospital on base).  my dr. told me my ds was going to be about 9lbs so we opted for a csection.  my dh (first child) was 6lbs 2.9oz and did quite a bit of damage coming out vaginally.  the dr. said i had a small pelvis.  well, my ds was only 7lbs 13oz, but still almost 2lbs heavier than my first.  i'm having another csection with this one and the dr. already estimates her weight at 4lbs 3oz and i am 31wks 1d.  they think she will be the biggest one yet.  i do have gd, and did with my ds too, that's why we think the babies are getting so big.

Glad I'm not the only one around here having big babies! I am very slim - in fact most of my life I've been underweight. I looked like I was about 7mths pregnant at full term! They did an u/s on me at 37 weeks as they were worried about the fetal growth...they told me I probably wouldn't have a baby over 7lbs...well...

My first, DD was 9lb 1oz and very long...at least 22inches. She was born on her due date also!
My second, DS was born 9lb 6oz and even longer - he was also born on his due date!
My third baby, DS was born 9lb and 22" - he was a week early!

With every pregnancy I asked whether they could tell if I was having another 'big baby' and they all said "don't count on it this time!"...My DH was a 10lb 9oz baby and about 24in - I was only 6lb 3oz when I was born and an average length so I guess the babies take after him!!!

It just goes to show you that the drs and u/s technology aren't always accurate and just because you 'look big' doesn't necessarily mean you're carrying a big baby. However, if you've had one big baby - it's highly likely you could have another!

My DH was born about 2 weeks early and weighed 8lb+, his sister was about 10lbs.  It runs in his family so I guess it is to be expected.  I am just so tiny.  At least I am not going through this alone :)
