just curious but you say you notied this a couple hours after birth...and he is now 6 months old?? you've never mentioned it to his ped. during well baby checkups??
~nanci
This is something that SHOULD have been mentioned, if not in the hospital, then at your first well baby appt. Where are you from that they discharged you so quickly and what are you considering quickly?
We were distarged after only 20 hours. We have very little accses to a Doctor. Its hard to find Dr.'s in Canada sometimes, depending on where you live.
My son is going next week to see a Dr. I guess I was just wondering before we went if this is a common thing.
what part of canada are you from??? there are several ladies on here from canada, i'm sure they can point you to a dr. ped.
oh and no i don't think any of it sounds normal.
good luck

Babies do have fingernails in the womb and sharp ones at that. Is it possible it was a scratch from that????? That was my thought. I do not know how big a spot you are talking here. Sorry I could not be more help. Good Luck and take care.
If spelling is going to judged on the forum from now on, we will be wasting a lot of time on that. I would feel badly if someone ever commented on mine.

What an excellent thought!!!!!!!!
We all know how sharp those little buggers are when they are fist born (and after, my son is in the stage where he wants to grab facial features and pinch his little heart out)
Depending on the size that sure could be a reason for a cut or scrape before birth.
well i think the finger nail thing is a good theory...but...the baby is floating in water or fluid....and i don't know about any of you but if i have my hands in water for a long time my nails get soft. so i don't think that is the cause.
(disclaimer: this has been an opinion of the nanci broadcasting system...this is only an opinion)
Nice!!!!!! Way to blow my theory out the water. LOL!!!! No pun intended there LOL!!!!!!! I didn't think of that either. I just know that sometimes babies do come out with scratches on their faces so it was just a thought. I know what you mean about soft nails in water though. I hate it when I have long nails to have to touch any water because those little suckers are going to break. Take Care :0)
I'm not saying I wasn't thinking along the same hmmm lines, but I just didn't think criticism of spelling was necessary, that's all. You never know who else you may offend and make self conscious.
Hey we all have to have a sense of humour! I think its all in fun
Or at least thats how I hope my posts have been coming off
I have my opinion and smart ass comments sometimes but I really hope I dont hurt anyone's feelings If I have I apoligize!!
My biggest pet peeve is just unprotected sex and its only because there are too many children in this world with dead beat parent/s or women who decide to have a abortion because of there irresponsibility or think they can keep a man with having a baby. Babies are a precious gift and indeed it takes alot of love and responsibility. Enough said!!
I am sorry to say that I don't think I will be posting here anymore. I have been coming here almost everyday since July and up until recently I have liked the tone on the board. I do not like to judge others especially since I am a nurse and this is a medhelp forum. I wish everyone the best and will miss this group.
you know what i just thought of something...my dh has a friend who's wife gave birth and when she did the baby came out face up...because he didn't turn over to come out he scraped her tailbone on the way out and had a pretty bad scrape on his upper lip because of it....maybe the baby hit her tailbone with the back of his head...could happen couldn't it??

Another thought about the finger nails, I know that most babies can not touch the top of their heads when they are born, their arms are to short. I think she just really needs to have this baby looked at to find out what is going on with the weak leg and lose of muscle control.
I agree I don't think it was from his finger nails, He is my second child and I know what a nail scrap looks like.
It is a very small spot though and when he was born I really wasent concerned. It was just a scrap, I was concerned when our Dr. noticed one of his legs was weaker then the other. He was checked twice that first week and the Dr. said he was not concerened and he was to young to tell if it would be a problem.
About 3 weeks ago I was watching a medical program that talked about Spina Bifida. When they taked about the mildest form, which can go undetected your whole life, thats when I tought about the cut on the back top of his head again.
It said that it can go totaly undetected and the only sign might be a mark of some kind on the head. It may look like a burn, bruse, cut or something else. They said you might only see that if the baby looses its hair, which my son did. Now I can see it actully left a scare. Now I'm thinking could it be more then just a cut? But the mildest case is not much to worry about and the child almost always has has a normal life. The problem is the next child has a very high chance to have a sever case. Not that that matters because I would still have children or adopt...abortion is never an option for me!!!
Any way I should have gone into more detail yesterday to explain my self, but this is my first time here and didnt know what to expect
I have been coming here for years on and off and things have changed a bunch. Although, I would not stop coming here because of that...It has been 7 months since I had my baby and I really have not been able to come on much and I notice a little change. Keep coming!!!!!!!
My son was also born with a cut on the back of his head... it was noticed right at birth. The pediatrician was at first concerned that it was a condition that the dr thought might have been the one where the skull and skin on the head doesnt form compeltly around the brain. They monitored his head and the healing process and determined that with it being a natural delivery he just hit his head on my pelvis causing a tear in his scalp on hit way out.
My daughter had a small scar also when she was born and it was caused when they burst my water, I think they used a long sharp object. It wasn't a big deal and actually went away soon after.
