Baby is peeing out of his diapers!!!

Baby is peeing out of his diapers!!!

My son is 11 days old and he keeps peeing out of his diapers!! It's not that he's leaking through them...he's peeing out of them! Everytime I change him, his diaper would be wet, but not soaked and his shirts/onesies would be soaked to where I have to change him at every diaper change. How can I prevent this?? It's become a real nuisance! Not to mention, I do his laundry every other day now since I have to wash his clothes and his blankets all the time. I'm using Huggies Newborn Umbilical Cord Care with the cutout at the top of the diaper. I've also tried to point his penis down, but somehow it points back up and I've tried to tighten his diaper, but I saw red marks on his legs from the diaper and found that I was doing them too tight! And he still leaked...HELP!!!

This is a problem with boys, for sure.  You might try going down one size, and changing to Pampers Swaddlers.  Be sure, once you get the diaper on, to slip your fingertips into the legs and pull the ruffles out ...if the inner lining is folded in, the pee can go out whether the diaper is on straight or not.

Oh, the joys of boys! I remember this with my first son, and so not looking forward to it with my second in the next couple of months, lol. Boys and their wee-wees.
I found the best diaper to use was the Huggies Supreme. Those diapers have three leak guards. Pull the leak guards away from the diaper and make sure they are "fluffed up" before you put the diaper on your baby.
Then, like AnnieBrooke said, after getting the diaper on him, put your fingertips through the leg holes of the diaper and make sure the leak guards are still "fluffed" and pulled up and didn't fold back down on the diaper.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the Huggies Supremes also have leak guards across the top front and the back of the diaper, so if in the case of a wee-wee pointing upwards and shooting out a stream, or an explosive BM cascading out the backside...you don't run the chance of cleaning up such a huge mess.

Thank ya'll for the advice!!! I think one of the problems might be the cutout on the Huggies Diaper for the umbilical cord care. It leaves this gap between his tummy and the diaper which I think is where he's leaking out of. Luckily his umbilical cord already fell off so I can start expermenting with different brands. The hospital gave us a trial pack of Pampers Swaddlers and those seemed to work..so I might try using those again and I will for sure try out the Huggies Supreme as well. Thanks again ya'll!!!  And congratulations AHP84 on the new one!!!! :)

I didn't see anyone mention this yet, but when you change his diapers, make sure you point his pee pee down. My son was doing the same thing, peeing up his diaper and soaking his shirts/onesie, and not even being very wet. So I started pointing him down, a suggestion from friends, and it stopped happening. I used the Pampers Swaddlers the first few months, and they did better, in my opinion, than anything else I tried.

Yes, point his pee-pee down that helped my boy.  Also when you put the straps on the diaper paste them diagnal down too.

Let us know if it helps.

I had been told of this problem before I had my boy/girl twins but I found pionting his penis down we could avoid it. my husband never got the hang of this so he would always change our DD and I did DS. Less washing that way. Good Luck
