Bacterial Vaginosis Question! Don't know what to do here!

by CYW, Feb 23, 2007 12:00AM
Okay so on Wednesday I found out I had bacterial Vaginosis. Anyways, I was prescribed Nidagel-metronidazole. It says in the papaers not to take in the first trimester and the baby is measuring now 11 weeks 1 day. Anyways, I dont know if any of you have gone through this before, Telehealth told me to wait until the second trimester, same with the pharmacist and but my doc as well as the doc who had prescribed it to me believe it's what it right. The pharmacist told me there was no mistake with the med because since it came out on the market, there were no studies found that it caused any problems. I'm just worried-do i wait say about 2-4 weeks before taking the medecin OR do I just take it now? I don't know what to do!!!:(

well, you've gotta weigh the risk and the benefit.  Ask your dr how bad would it be for you to wait a few more weeks before using the product.

Go to www.motherisk.org. This is the most up to date information on drugs and products in relation to pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you can't find the information on the website that you're looking for, there's a telephone mumber where you can speak to a nurse. Good luck.

did you take the same meds and how far along were you and is the baby ok?

Do not wait to take it. Bacterial vaginosis can cause pre-term labor, and m/c if left untreated. If you are nervous about that particular antibiotic, call the Dr. and ask for something else. I took something different, but can't remember the name of it. If I remember, I will post.

I wouldn't wait to take it either. I had several infections and always took my meds b/c I trusted what my doc gave me would be ok while pregnant otherwise they wouldn't prescribe it. If you wait like the above post said it could cause preterm labor. It could also affect the baby and get bad and then you would be worse off. I was told to NEVER let an infection go while being pregnant!

Hey, there,
sorry to hear about your situation. According to my doctor, nothing should be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy; only tylenol.

If possible, get a second and even third opinion.

What you could do, however, is buy FOOD GRADE Hydrogen Peroxide Water. It must be FOOD GRADE. Dilute about 1 table spoon of it into one gallon of distilled water and use it as a ******. This is a natural way of getting rid of vaginal infections.

You insert the mixed water with a syringe (no needle of course) while laying in the bath tub and holding it in for 2 minutes. You'll have to be laying on your back with your pelvis up so the water doesn't run right out.

Please talk to your doctor before you do anything, though.
