Bacterial Vaginosis during pregnancy. Do you have this experience?

by Gili, Apr 28, 2006 12:00AM
Hi, All.

I am currently 12 weeks pregnant.  I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis during my annual pap smear.  Because of risk of pre-term labor associated with bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy, my doctor prescribed me to 1 week of Metronidazole treatment in 500mg orally.  However, my itching continues.  My doctor recommends Monistat, which I used for 7 days.  Thereafter, itching still persists.  Then my OB prescribed Metrogel, applied vaginally for 5 days.  During the 1st and 2nd day of Metrogel, itching persists.  On the 4th and 5th day of it, itching is not noticed.  However, itching came back 2 days after I finished using Metrogel.  It’s been 5 days since I finished the Metrogel.  Itching hasn’t gotten better.  Itching tends to get worse at night.

My question is what is the chance that I have something else other than bacterial vaginosis, or the common consequence of yeast infection as a result of treating bacterial vaginosis?  Furthermore, should I try using Monistat again?  I don’t mind trying Monistat again, if it’s appropriate.  However, I’d like to be treated for the right thing just in case my itching is no longer associated with bacterial vaginosis.  Does anyone have that experience?

well because of the risks involved w/ being pregnant I would just bug the heck out of your dr until you get better.  I get yeast infections constantly and I take acidophilus from a pill on a daily basis.  I checked w/ my dr first so make sure you do that.  I know it isnt for vaginosis but I just wanted to share my itch dilemna.  good luck

I had bacterial vaginosis around 10 weeks, but I never had any symptoms of it.  It was a rountine test for it that found it.  I didnt know itching was a common symptom?  I'm sure you could checked again for it, if you told the doc you were worried about it.

I had the same problem with the bacterial vaginosis.  I got treated for it, but the itching was still there after it went away and came back again.  My doctor told me to wait a few more days and see if it clears up otherwise call and they will do more tests to see if it went away or if I have a different type of an infection.  I gave it about three days and it went away.
