Beauty Marks? Freckles, etc.

Beauty Marks? Freckles, etc.

I have a strange question - when do babies/children start to show signs of freckles/beauty marks?  My dd has two dots on her cheek and that is what they look like.  I called her pediatric derm but have to wait a few days to get an appointment.

Also, my dd started walking very early and now she thinks she can do anything which is leading to a lot of bruises.  She is so clumbsy and bumps her head on everything.  The only way I could baby proof more would be to remove all the furnature and walls from my home.  She will literally run into a wall because she is too busy looking at something else.  What type of head bumb is the kind I should worry about?  I dont want to keep tourmenting my pediatrician and pretty soon they are going to think I beat her.  Two days ago she hit her face right above her eye and screamed.  I almost was going to take her to the ER for it because it swelled up.  I decided to put ice on it and wait and it did go right down but I would not let her sleep.  What should I worry about?

Thanks moms.

hi.

i dont think there is a time when kids start to show 'signs'. my new baby boy who is 9 weeks was born with a mole yes a mole on his right foot on the sole! my other 2 children had nothing like that when born and are still mole and freckle free now at 3 years and 20 months. my 20 month old son sounds like your daughter, falls over lots and bumps into just about everything. at this young age they are still quite top heavy tho and that causes alot of the falls, my son looks like a battered child too he constantly has bruises and cuts on his head! for me the time i would worry and seek medical advice would be if they a. either became unconscious or very sleepy right after the accident or if they cried constantly after hurting themself.
hope this helps

Abby always has bumps, bruises....all over her.  Cuts, scraps.  You name it...and of course the worst is always around picture day!!!
I've always heard, if the head was hit or bumped and there is no bump...then you worry.

A bump or bruise is a good sign.  No bump, and the fall was traumatic....it could be internal....also the sleepiness is huge.  Now that Abby is older we make her count and recite the alphabet.  LOL - that's funny....just reading what I wrote.  We go through this at least once a week.   But I'll give her props....she is one tough kid.

About 2 weeks after Abby was born she developed a tiny red dot next to her eye...it is called a Hemangioma (Strawberry) Birth mark.  It has now faded quite a bit but it was the size of a baby fingertip at one point.  She has no other marks on her body.  And I have a quite a few moles and (freckles as a kid).

Now Jake is 6 mos and has two tiny moles on his back already.

By the way....Abby is always always looking in the other direction of where she is walking too....that is where most of the injuries occur.  So good luck - doesn't get any better....

thanks ladies - I am covered in freckles and moles.  I have had quite a few taken off so it worries me and I thought they were do to me and my love of the sun.  My dd has not been in the sun yet so it worries me a little.  I think I am going to call the derm back and request a special visit.

Avery is the same way, she is fearless! She bangs her knees on the floor and her knees are always bruised. Avery has a few little marks that look like they are going to be moles. She was born with a hemangioma on her back. At first it looked like a little heart (we called her a Care Bear) then it got much bigger and raised. It freaked me out but the doctors repeatedly tell me it will go away by the time she is 5. Lately it has started to get smaller and fade in color. It is about the size of a nickel.  Avery started to bite me when she is going to sleep at night. I will be rocking her and all of a sudden she will bite my arm-it really hurts. I think she is getting more teeth but when I tell her No, she giggles like it is a game. My arm looks like someone is abusing me, I have six bruises where she has bit me. She was a pistol this weekend, my mom thinks she is acting out because she has her all week and then on the weekend she is with me all the time. If I tell her no she just does whatever she is doing more. If I remove her from whatever she is doing she goes right back. I repeat this process about a hundred times. How can you discipline an almost 1 year old? Do they even understand? Avery seems like she understands No. I was ready to pull my hair out. Any suggestions?  :)

Does Avery have any little mole freckle looking things?  Gosh I hope Eva does not get two giant moles on her little face.

I have the same issues you do.  Eva does understand NO and when she goes over to the steps she will look right at me - there could be 10 people in the room and she looks at me with a smile.  I say very loud NO! if she goes toward them I say it again and Point, she will then move away.  If my dad is anywhere around she will run to him, grab his hand, and go right back - because he lets her do whatever she wants.    Drives me bananas.

Avery has 2 little "things" for lack of a better word-one under her chin and one on her neck. They look like little freckles and I suspect they will be moles. I am sure Eva will not have 2 giant moles on her face but I know how we worry. I worry about everything! I hope Avery's hemangioma on her back goes away before she is older. I already have to be careful about what swimsuit I buy for her because I want to keep it covered in the sun and most swimsuits do not cover the area where it is.

Hey Kim.  I'm really glad you asked this question because now that Soraya is working, she gets hurt and falls all the time.  The other day, she fell sideways into the wall and somehow got this large scratch on her cheek.  She's so clumbsy now.  She must fall like 20 times a day.  Nothing serious of course but, just from her stepping on her toys or tripping on a piece of furniture.  I also worried about head injuries.

Soraya was born with a Hemangioma also.  Except that her's was a vascular hemangioma (a cluster of veins) and it wasnt red, it looked like a bruise and it was a bump. They almost didnt let her leave the hospital because of it (when I gave birth). One week later, her pediatrician had me go to an NYU specialist.  I didnt know what to expect and turns out, she treats cancer patients.  Thank god my mother was with me because i would have been hysterically crying (So many sick sick children there, it broke my heart and I was dealing with post partum).  Eventually it went away. It just looks like a tiny bruise on her rib.

Cant wait, Soraya has a beauty mark under her lip. It's not like a brown spot. It's actually more like a light area. It's really strange.  I noticed it around 3 months old.  My mom has one on her face like that and I'm wondering if it's hereditary some how.  She also has two she was born with on her back & tush. Both look like bruises.  Gosh, anyone would think I abuse her with all her little birthmarks and booboos.

Freckles are from sun, so if you use sunscreen it is likely those won't appear anytime soon. As for moles, genetics have a lot to do with it. My 6 year old has a mole on the side of his nose exactly where mine is and my real mother had the same. All three of my boys have the same little dimple under their left nipple...identical to my dh. They also all have the same strawberry/stork bites on the back of their neck and eventually grows into their hairline...again just like my DH.

My 6 year old has 5 tiny little spots/moles: one on his tush, one behind his ear, one on his nose, one on his arm, and one on his wrist. My middle one doesn't have a single mole, and my baby has one on his shoulder.

wow, thank you all so much for all the info.  Eva has not been in the sun yet but she will be soon so I guess the freckles will be popping out and these are moles.  I have them but not on my face I just though she was too young to get them.  She does have one in her private area - she had that since birth I actually call a birthmark the rest are all just appearing now.  I will take her to the derm just to be safe since I had one come back positive before.  Just what I need another worry.  I thought the peanut got lucky when she came out with dark hair and dark eyes.  I was bald and light and freckly.

Thanks again.
