Bicornuate uterus and m/c

Bicornuate uterus and m/c

I have a bicornuate uterus and was wondering if anyone else has one, and if so have you had m/c's.  This is my second preg. and m/c.  A week ago I had an US and the baby measured 6 weeks and 1 day and no heartbeat(I was 8 weeks).  My Dr. thinks I had a missed m/c.  I go in on mon. for another US to see if anything has changed.  If not I need to have a D&C (has anyone had one).  I'm very nervous.
Also I want to add that this site is wonderful and so is all the women on it.  I'm sorry that so many women have to go through such hardships.  I just keep praying and trust in God.

I don't have one but i do know someone who does and she said that she had and increased rate of miscarriage, but not by much and it's very possible to have a viable pregnancy, so please don't worry and good luck everything will turn out ok.

Hi it's Emra.  I have a bicoruate uterus too.  I was shocked to find out that I have one.  I just suffered a m/c.   It was my first m/c but my 2nd pregnacy.  I have a 4 year old.
When I was pregnant with her they didn't know about my 'condition' because apparently the one side of the uterus collapses so that the condidion can be hidden (if you are already pregnant).  I had a lot of problems carrying my first.  I suffered a lot of pain and discomfort and spent a lot of time at the hospital.  But I also have several fibroids that cause a lot of pain when pregnant.  So I'm not really sure if it was my uterus 'shape'or the fibroids that caused all my problems.  My daughter is now 4 she was premature she was born at 31 weeks.  She was small and required hospitalization for 5 weeks.  They are now wondering if my bicornuate uterus was the 'cause' for the prematurity.  I did some research on it and the stuff I read said that for people that have a bicoruate uterus are at higher risk for m/c and something like only 60% of people that have this go on to have a 'successful' pregnancy (i'm not really sure of the numbers though).
I'm sorry that you are going through this.  I just had my m/c on Friday night and still greiving terribly.  But know that it is possible for people who have a bicornuate uterus to have kids.  I did.  You just may need a little exta care.

I have a heart-shaped uterus (mildly bicornuate) and I just had a baby.  No problem from the uterine shape, didn't even deliver early (well, 6 days before my due date).  The only increase in risk of m/c with a bicorunate uterus is if the embryo happens to implant on the septum (if you have a septum) and thereby gets less blood flow than it needs.  This is not a super high risk even for people who do have a septum.  Check the archives under bicorunate uterus and you will find a lot that has been written about the topic.  Good luck!  Annie

i also have a bicornuate uterus i had a missed m/c with my first pregnancy and then got pregnant 3 months after that i did have a lot of problems but dr said it had nothing to do with my uterus shape except for the fact that i went into pre-term labor several times which is very common with a bicornuate uterus i also had to have a c-section with him b/c he was breach which is also very common. my dr told that the m/c rate doesn't really increase but that your chances for pre-term labor and having a breach baby are very high. i ended up delivering my son at 37 weeks he was 8lbs 2 oz. i am now 38 weeks pregnant with a little girl i have gone into pre-term labor a few times but thankfully they were always able to stop it she is head down and fully engaged in the pelvis which is good but the dr still wants to do a c-section b/c of the way my last dr made the cut on my uterus to deliver my son so i have a c-section scheduled for january 29 at 12:30 in the afternoon.

Thank you for the support.  Emra I am sorry for your loss.  My Dr. said that when I get to the 3rd trimester I might have to be put on bedrest because of early labor.  Also there is a higher risk of c-section.  I am 31 and my husband is 40 so we are getting really anxious about having a normal pregnancy, we want kids so bad!!!

I have a heart shaped uterus. I have been pregnant  9 times. I was just previously preg w/twins and lost them both in aug -07 at 4 months . I have 2 boys 4 and 6. It's hard not to worry when you have this because it is extremely easy to get preg, but it's not easy to carry. I also lost a baby in dec of 06 at 5 1/2 months. It's very upsetting and hard . Not to mention the toll it takes on your body. It's left me very exhausted . I want atleast one more baby, but it's hard to get excited . I understand the devestation of not hearing a heart beat. I've had dnc's .They've had to enduce my labor. I've had to get a death certificate. It's not fair and definately not easy but don't give up hope.

I have a bicornuate uterus and have had 3 miscarriages.  My husband and I are thinking about getting sterilized, as we don't feel it is fair to a child to take the chance of birth defects, intrauterine growth restriction, breech birth, etc.

There are thousands of babies put up for adoption each year that are perfectly healthy and need good homes.  If we decide we need a child to feel complete, we will adopt.
