Birth control...What!???

Hey girls... I was just wondering if any of you have been put on bc while working with an ifertility specialist??? and when???  I have had a laparoscopy on July 26th and was put on bc on June 30.... I had the results for the lap, which revealed nothing and now I have to switch Dr.s (but in the same practice)...and they kpet me on bc until I meet with the new Dr. on August 22 for IVF meeting... what are they doing to me??? now we cannot try on our own...AND and am only taking the active pills (so I haven't had a period since June 30th.  Does this sound right to anyone??? I thought this would be our summer to conceive, boy was I wrong!!!  How frustrating!!! Please let me know if anyone has gone through a similiar situation or can help me!!! I am really impatient!!!!!

Just to see why I am not getting preggo after 2 years of trying..although I did get preggo the first round of clomid 50 mg and IUI...but after that 5 more rounds and nothing... on the lap which also included a hysteroscopy, they found a small amount if endo. on the left side and he lasered it and said that the left side may not have been working BUT I never really had any eggs on that side anyway...I had right side dominant eggs, haha...I had 3-4 ready in one cycle (measuring ~20mm each!!)...anyway.. isaw the surgery on tape... and now My dr. has said it is time for IVF!!! sorry about the long story and I hope I answered the question without toooo much blah, blah, blah!!!

Well, at the least, your doc needs to tell you why he thinks IVF is your only answer.  It kind of sounds like more Clomid might do it, if you haven't been pressuring him extraordinarily or anything.  Unless your tubes are blocked, or something like that, just a little endometriosis is not enough to make the huge effort, pain and cost of IVF necessary.  If you don't get clear answers from doc #1, you might try another doctor, have all your records sent over and have doc #2 talk to doc #1 to find out why he is so adamant to jump to IVF.  IVF can cost $20,000 all told, and I would hate to think your doctor is letting that potential income influence his advice.

Hi there..
when I did IVF/FET I always started with bc and than I injected lupron.  My doctor told me that since I have Endo that the bc and the lupron would help me more for the transfer to work.  So, it might be a good thing that the doctor is telling you to start with bc first.

did your dr. tell you the reasoning behind the bc? i would ask for an explanation, but i do know that sometimes with ivf they want to manipulate your cycle so maybe he's starting now. but i'm not sure of his reasons. i'm going to be starting ivf too probably around the same time as you. i'm also going to a meeting (class) at my drs. office on august 22nd to learn all about it and how to give the shots. i'm not on any bc now though - dr. said we could try on own, but if af shows up wants to start ivf. i just found out a little more info about it. like it could be a whole 5-6 week process (i thought regular cycle, but apparently it's an artificial cycle and just the lupron shots can be for 2-3 weeks or something) i really gotta get to that class - the not knowing all the details is driving me nuts. i'll keep you posted of what i find out. but i would definitely ask dr. about the bc. good luck and thinking of you.

WOW!!! Thanks for all of the insight!!!  My insurance does cover the IVF process up to $50,000, so I consider myself really lucky... Yeah, maybe they are getting me ready for IVF... I am also so confused about the process so I have been reading up.  I went to Barnes and Nobles and got a couple of books on Infertility and so far I am learning A LOT!!!!  AND.... as a result of the lap/hyster... now I have a bladder/UTI infection and called the Dr. right away today!!!  Will that effect the IVF process that is coming up???  I hope not!!!!  I feel like I did the lap/hyster for nothing!! and now I have an infection!!! yuck!!!  anyway girls, thank you so much for the info... I really appreciate all of your information and caring thoughts!!!  Oh, Berko...I can't believe that we will be at IVF classes on the same day...although, mine is more like a consult!!!  AnnieBrooke...thank you for your input...I never thought about leaving my doctor/or trying another one...it may be a money thing???  who knows??? I guess I will have to give that a thought....Does anyone else feel rushed when they go to their infertility specialist????
Again, thank you all...and I will be talking to you soon!!!Jacquie

I have a laproscopy earlier this year and the doctor said that due to the cramping pains I was getting during AF and them finding nothing wrong with me internally, that I either have to be on BC or have I have to be pregnant. I need the hormones in my body is what he told me. So he said to take BC and pre-natal vitamins for 3 months and then start trying. Thats what we did and last week we found out that we are 6w 2d! I think they have you on it but because of your dr change perhaps they want to test you again. Also taking the vitamins before hand will help the growth of the baby- at least thats what I am told. I think it sounds a little odd, you should be starting to try soon! Hope that that helps!
