Birthing classes and OMG how funny!!!!

First off there is someone on the womens forum signed in as island princess saying fertility cycle did not work???? Do you think it is Calos??? What a sneak if it is.

Also to all of you preggers are you signing up for Birthing Classes? For those who have already taken it what can I expect? What do they go over?? Will I get a tour of the maternity unit??

Why did she change her name, did I miss something? I saw all her posts were removed and where are all the regular girls?

Good Morning Harley,
I signed up for all the classes with our first 8yrs ago. I can not rember to much about the classes, but I do recommend them to first time moms.  They are a good support for fears of becoming a mom.  My dh went and learned alot.  You can take a tour on your own, just call the maternaty unit to seee about a tour.
How much longer do you have?

Good luck,
Melissa

I took a "natural" birthing class with my first - big mistake.  I dont know that much abut them, but I guess as long as its something given by the hospital it should be good.  I think they do do tours of the maternity unit, so that yuo will be familiar with it when you get there.
By the way everyone, my dr. wouldnt do the level II yesterday because I had my kids with me, and they were loosing it a bit.  I have an appointment for the 19th.  So I dont know yet if tis a boy or a girl.

SNEEKY INDEED!
~ A funny story about birthing classes~ I was put on bedrest at 24 weeks with my DD. I freaked out that I could not attend a birthing class. My OB went on & on about how I'll be fine the nurse will show me what to do my sister will be with me (she is a labor & delivery nurse). So @ 36 wks, I am off bedrest & my OB insists I go take a class at 38 weeks. Now I am MAD! I was not wasting a whole day in a birthing class after being on strict bedrest since 24 weeks! So ~ I delivered our beautiful DD on the day of the class, without any problems!

I am a little over 31 weeks and have not had time for birting class.  Here they are 6 weeks long and start around 6:30 p.m. and end at 10p.m.  Hubby dont get off work until 5:30 and has at least a 45 min drive home.  And he really needs to take a shower before going and eat something....so I bought the Laugh and Learn about Childbirth DVD.  It just came in yesterday and I havent started watching it yet.  But I figured it would be better than not knowing anything!

I know what you mean about the long class schedule. I opted to take a 9 hour one day only Sat class. But they menton in big print that the Mommy has to be able to sit for extended periods of time and will have to try and not take frequent potty breaks. I say to that YEA RIGHT!!! If I gotta pee I gotta pee and wild horses will not keep me from the ladies room. :)

Good morning ladies.  I did not take any birthing classes yet but my sister did (she had her DD a little over a year ago).  She told me that they discussed about pain and that labor is a natural process and there is nothing to be afraid of, etc, etc.   They also taught a little bit on how to take care of a newborn (you should've seen my brother in law trying to change a diaper on a doll...the poor doll, he took it by its legs and kept turning it around as if it were a piece of meat, my sister was on the floor laughing...now, a year later he's a pro!)  My sister felt that the class did not teach her much and that she could've done fine without it.  I was with my sister when she was having her DD so I got very familiar with the birthing facility (I have the same dr and giving birth at the same hospital).  So hopefully, that experience will help me through somehow.

I am taking mine in Oct and have no high expectations since I am going to get an Epidural anyway.  Yes, they ussually give you a tour.  I am more excited about the breast feeding class.  I think I watch way too much Discovery Health and TLC to be excited about the birthing class (LOL)

I had a great experience at a birthing class that we took through the hospital. The instructor was really knowledgeable, and the class was well put together. We learned breathing techniques (that did work for me), pain relief ideas (birthing ball, walking, massage, meds)and then toured the hospital. That was really nice so you knew where you were going before you came in labor. This class engaged the partners too, so DH didn't sit there all bored.

The thing that I liked is that instructor went through each of the pain meds, how they were administered, effects (good and bad), if they crossed over to baby etc. The epidural portion freaked me out, especially when I saw the size of the needle. :)

I am definately taking birthing classes, newborn care classes, infant/pediatric CPR, breastfeeding and any other classes I can get my hands on! At my hopsital, they do give a tour of the birthing center.

I'm signed up for all the classes, we just went to the infant care class last night & it was nice. I think everything they went over I have read in books anyway, but I guess I am just nervous this being my first baby so I figure I can't get enough info about babies. It was kind of weird, but I guess good, they actually showed us all the grose pictures of newborn babies (not that bad) but also everything else, like photos of discharge coming out of the baby's vagina, and photos of the steps for circumsicion. Wow, I wasn't expecting to see all taht but hey. Its better to know ahead right.
And let me tell you, its hard to change a diaper on a plastic doll. Those stupid things aren't that mobile and I really felt dumb. Seriously, I do know how to change a diaper though.
We have the childbirth class next weekend and it is all day Saturday and half day Sunday. Believe me, I'm going to take bathroom breaks whenever I need to too. I'd like to see someone try to tell a room full of very pregnant women that they can't go to the bathroom. Rebellion!

Something no one ever told me was you may want to think of signing up early, bc I thought w/ my 1st pg I'll probably be so late so I was to for classes about a week after I had him LOL : ) I had him at 36wks , bright side if this happen to you you'll just push when the Dr says  I remember my legs being put in stirrups & me saying My classes are next week LOL. So either way you'll do fine LOVE & PRAYERS

I think I was in my 6th month when my doc had me take a birthing class. You'll get it all... breathing, massage techniques, you'll learn to spot early labor, tour the hospital.  All of which, I did not use b/c I ended up having a c-section.  Oh well.

Side note:  I told you she'd be back. she wasn't at Shady Acres afterall.   I was off on the user name though =P

Shady acres called saying she escaped. Poor Mr. Miller is beside himself with worry. He was really looking forward to his sponge bath.

You guys are all nuts. I am sure DH would love it but I am NOT going there. :) LOL!!!

Low22, you have pretty much summed him up. Sitting at the computer with his damn knife, a beer and in ripped jeans and black Harley T-shirt, playing his violent computer games that frankly give me a headache.

I asked him when he babysits Quinn what he will do when she fusses he said well put her in a bouncy chair near me with the fan blowing on her so I do not have to smell her stinky diapers.
I sure hope he is kidding. LOL ;)

I heard Mr. Miller has rquested that Lisa's hair scrunchy be used in place of a sponge.  Maybe that's why she ran away.
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
Hmmmm, you may be onto something there. :) I would run away too if Mr. Miller was getting all fesity like that.

Some hospitals offer the tour without the classes.  We took the classes with my first pregnancy and all of the information went out of the window on the day I went into labor. There are online classes you can do for free or if anyone is like me, watch TLC or Discovery Health :)
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
I went to the class with my son and it cost me $50. We didn't get a tour of the hospital and everything that was talked about was included in all of the reading material they gave us. I was induced and had an epidural so pretty much everything that I was told in class wasn't useful anyways.

Avatar_n_tn
I don't get all this stuff about Mr. Miller.  Do you and da-10 work at the same hospital?  Please fill me in.  If is something you can't say on here - please email me because I am SO confused!!!
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
I never took the classes, so when I went in to have my baby I pushed  from where the baby should come out. Well, the doc said no, push like u r going to the bathroom (#2). I'm sure the look on my face was priceless. Well, I did what he said and messed all over myself. They didn't give me an enama before hand. So, now when our friends are going to have a baby my husband tells them not to peep around the cloth.

(It's referring to a line of humor that had one of the posters working as a sex therapist at an old-folks home and one of the supposed denizens a Mr. Miller who was "enthusiastic" esp. about Viagra.  The thread may have been deleted for other reasons.)
Blank

Yes, yes...Mr. Miller is a fictious yet spry old fella. Back when calos said that 30+ was old to start a family, Harley jokingly told her that I'm 65 and teach sex ed. at the senior center. (I am older than harley, but not that old). Calos had asked where some of us were from, and what we do, and before I could answer, there's good ol' harleygirl making up a history for mslkpage!! Anyway, it just spun out of control from there. Calos asked me a question, and I told her I would answer later, because it was time to pass out viagra at Shady Acres.

Now, it's taken on a life of it's own, and Mr. Miller...man, I don't even want to go there!! :)

Make sure you give Mr. Miller a prune juice chaser with his viagara to him moving. :)
