Bleeding § Cramps in early Pregnancy

by McAdam, Mar 11, 2004 12:00AM
I am 4½ weeks pregnant. I am experiencing light bleeding for the last three days, the first day the blood was brown and only happened on wiping once, the second day, again it was brown and again only once - on discovering this I was referred to the hopsital where they took blood to determine my BHCG levels.  I received my results today which read 176.  Today I have also experience some red blood when wiping followed by brown discharge on wiping.  I have also had stomach cramps, not severe just a dull ache, I feel they are subsiding slightly today.

Can you tell me if this is a sign of early miscarriage?

I really don't know if what your are experiencing is a miscarriage.  I pray that it is not!  What did your dr. tell you about your BHCG levels?  Are they normal?  Do they want you to come back in a couple days to test the levels again to see if they have double?  What did the dr. say about the bleeding?  Please write back and tell us what they said!  I so hope that you and your baby are all right!

Thank you for your comments, the dr explained that the HGC level was slightly low, however dr explained that it might be because I am so early on into the pregnancy.  I have to return tomorrow morning to dr and they will test my blood again.  I asked if the bleeding was normal and the reply was 'no bleeding in pregnancy is normal' so I will have to wait and see what happens.

I pray that your baby is alright!  I am afraid though that you might of mc and if you did I am so sorry.  I just lost my baby boy last month and it is so hard.  Have you ever had a mc before?  (I'm just found the website, so I don't know the history of people)  Please post your results after you get them.  Just remember that we are all praying for you and hoping for the best!

I have never m/c before, I have a son who will be 5 in June, I too am new to this site, I only registered today.  I am unsure if I have miscarried, as I have read previous comments and I have not yet (fingers crossed) bled heavily or clotted.  I will let you know my results tomorrow.

Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you.  I don't want to scare you but I too started the exact same way as you did without any heavy cramping and unfortunately miscarried on 3/08.  You are not alone and I know it is scary but be strong!
Keep me posted!

I am sorry you are going through this.  I know how scary it must be.  I had a m/c in Sept and I had NO signs what so ever.  I never bled or cramped all of a sudden I just lost all symptoms and felt great one morning.  I have a 5 1/2 yr old and with her I had some pink spotting on the toilet paper when I was about 5 months and I was terrified.  All was ok with me though.  I have always heard it is not uncommon to have brown or light pink in the beginning but if it is red that is not a good sign.  I do wish you luck but it worse comes to worse we are here for you to talk to anytime.  If it makes you feel better I had my D&C Sept 23 and another on Oct 5.  Nov 7 my periods returned and I had another period on Dec 7 and around Christmas became pg again and I am 13 weeks today and so far so good.  Good Luck to you.  Take Care.  You are in my thoughts.

I agree with everyone...it is very hard to tell.  You really have to just wait until tomorrow to hear what your hcg levels are.  If they are going up significantly, then you are fine.  If they are the same, decreased, or even have gone up just a little, then you have m/c.  When I m/c I experienced brown blood at the beginning and then after about a week, the bleeding increased and turned red.  Then, the large clots began.  Everything could be just fine though...some women do experience some bleeding at the beginning.  In fact, when I began brown spotting, the dr. told me that it could also just be the placenta developing.  So, hang in there until tomorrow...only time will tell.  But, I know the waiting period is very difficult.

Sorry you are going through this, I know it's tough. If you are actually m/cing there's actually not that much in there to begin if you are only 4 and 1/2 weeks. Is that from your last period or actually the gestation days? It may very well be implantation spotting so hold tight. Good luck to you and please let us know how you make out. We'll all keep our fingers crossed for you.

It sounds like its nothing because when I was 14 years old I had what you had and it wasn't nothing. In may this year I got Implantation bleeding in my discharge it was stringy and fresh blood colour pink or red it was happened once in a day but I heard you can get also brown Implantation bleeding as well which I didn't get that colour I just think its old blood that's all. After getting Implanation bleeding I recieved a period 2 weeks later so I don't really understand. People who have periods while pregnant did they get Implantation blood at the beginning cause I did then got period 2 weeks after with no pains which was really weird ever since that my periods have got into a pattern where as they weren't before. every month take 3 away like may was day 35 june was day 32 from the first day of my period from the last month period if you know what i mean

it just goes 35 32 29
