Blighted ovum?

Blighted ovum?

I am 10 weeks pregnant (based on last period) and started bleeding two days ago - light flow, red.  An ultrasound was done two days ago and they found what looked to be a blighted ovum, that was only 5 weeks along.  I am still bleeding lightly (on the third day), no cramping just feeling a little wierd.  In the past I was told that I had a tilted uterus and I have found other people online who had a similar diagnosis, but since their uterus was tilted, the u/s wasn't accurate.  Is there any hope that this baby will go to term?

When a person has a problem with an ultrasound reading because of a tilted uterus, the problem is that the embryo cannot be seen.  Given that they saw the embryo, the tilt of your uterus probably is playing no negative role in reading the ultrasound.  The only hope I can give you is that you are not really 10 weeks pregnant but only 5.  (There is even perhaps the far-fetched scenario that you got pregnant and had a blighted ovum and then immediately got pregnant again.)  If you are certain that you would have to be 10 weeks pregnant, then it does not sound hopeful.  I'm sorry.

Thanks for your response AnnieBrooke.  I'm still waiting for something to happen and have an ultrasound scheduled for next week if I haven't miscarried by then.  I'll keep this updated.  I'm still hoping for some sort of miracle.

My docter called today and suggested taking progesterone supplements.  My HCG is normal for pregnancy and my progesterone was at 8.1 (she said at least 10 is what she would like to see).  Would this be worth it?  I understand that if I do have a blighted ovum, progesterone doesn't do a thing.

I'd take it.  Though progesterone supplements will not change anything about a blighted ovum if that is what is happening, they will help in situations where a woman's low progesterone level is the only problem with a pregnancy and is so low that she is at risk of losing the pregnancy for that reason alone.  (I had a friend who carried successfully to term when she took progesterone and miscarried every time she didn't take it.  This would be an example of someone whose only problem was her progesterone level.)   Who knows if that is your situation?  But it does not hurt you or the baby to take it, either.  And (if it turns out in retrospect that something was wrong with your dates and you genuinely were only 5 weeks pregnant), it would be worth it later to know that you did everything you could.
