Blood type and pregnancy

I was recently talking to my mother and she told me that when I was born a doctor informed her to make sure I didnt marry someone of the same blood type as me, since this would worsen the chances of having a healthy child? Is this true? I can't seem to find any biological basis for this. By the way, I am O+ type blood. My mom is O-, and my father is O+. I know she had to get a shot because of this RH incompatibility with my father.

Hi im O+ which is a very common blood type I have no idea what my husband is and we have one child with another on the way im not too sure what the doctor meant. with O+ blood type you should have no worries. I know my cousin had a rare blood type in which when she gave birth they had to monitor her carefully but not sure which one but know O+ is good.

Both my folks were O+ and my sister and I didn't have any issues. My dh is A+ and no issues there with our two boys.

your mom had to get the shot because of the RH factor (like you said)  it has nothing to do with whether or not you and your partner have the same blood type.. Your mom probably thought that since she and your father shared a blood type that that is what caused the rh factor.  Not true.

If the mom has a - rh factor then she needs the shot regardless of the father's blood type.  for example, i am B+ and DH is A- even though our blood types are very opposite of each other, it wont matter because i have a + rh.  

So dont worry.. you will be fine because your Rh is also +
