Boppys--useful and necessary?

by Jenny100, Aug 31, 2007 01:53PM
Just wondering about the opinions of others who have a boppy pillow. I can't decide whether I want one. I do plan to nurse--but is a regular pillow just as helpful as a boppy or is there really something wonderful about a boppy that's better???

I have a boppy and a V shaped pillow, after I had Sam I couldn't even get the boppy round me I was still so fat so I used the V shaped one more. I have very large breasts too but am only short so with the boppy baby was a bit high up and my breasts smothered him. The boppy is great for when he is sitting up though, I just put it around him and if he starts to tip the boppy saves him, it has had way more use this way than as a nursing pillow.

i love the boppy and my son at 1 is still using it to drink his night time bottle.  well, he is getting off bottles now but i used it for a year.  :)

I agree - I didn't use mine much for nursing, but it comes in very handy for the baby to sit in when he/she is older.  My dds also loved it for tummy time!!

I didn't think it was necessary with my first but bought one with my second. What a difference is made for me! I swear by them now and still use it with my 3rd child who is 10 months and still nursing. Definitely was well worth it in my opinion.

Even if you don't use it to nurse I have noticed that babies love to just lay with it and use it to help them sit once they get to that stage.

I did use mine for nursing and I also used it to prop my dd up to look around during the day...I loved it, plan on using it w my next dd, and I thought it was definately worth the investment!

Oh, and I did buy the stripped down naked version (you have to buy the covering seperately, but I just used mine bare)at Babies-r-us, but you can find them every now and then at places like Tj Maxx, or other discount places for a little less money...I have seen them there before, but not too often...I would keep an eye out at those places if you wanted to save a little $ (of course, they didn't have them when I was looking, lol)..I think Target carries them now as well, for about the same price as Babies-r-us...

i agree....they dont only work for nursing,

i used mine almost every time i nursed, its especially helpful when baby gets bigger and heavier, a regular pillow would work the same i guess, but my dd is 18 months old and still loves her bobby,

she doesnt have a favorite teddy bear, or a blankey, she has her bobby, (her bob she calls it) and she hugs on it and loves on it (kinda weird but she nursed on it for so long, it probably brings back good memories lol)

I don't know what I would do without my boppy.  Definately worth it.  I brought it to the hospital and used it there.

Thanks everybody. I really like to hear from real moms who have tried products and can give their good advice about whether they are worth it or not.
Sounds like everyone really likes them, and not just for nursing. Sounds like they are a big help with supporting baby to sit up, etc.
Off to Target to get one!  :)

I use a normal pillow.  I tried a boppy in the hospital and wasn't impressed with it.  It was difficult to position, didn't seem to fit right around me, and was still too low.  with a normal pillow I can adjust the position.

I see a lot of mothers after delivery using them.  Pillows will work, but the boppy seems easier, doesn't slip out of place.

if you plan on nursing, you may also want to look into my brest friend. we are having trouble breast feeding, and my lactation consultant wants me using this instead of the boppy because it helps with your posture and provides a firmer, steadier surface for the baby. i find it to be comfortable, and it supports my back. i also have a boppy, and i do use that sometimes for bf-ing as well. but like the others said, dd loves hanging out propped up in the boppy. i find it especially helpful after a feeding because it keeps her upright and helps prevent spitting up.

I'm obsessed with my bobby! I loved it so much I have 3! One to keep in my car so I can nurse her everywhere and one on each floor of the house! I think they're the best for breast and bottle feeding. I got my DH and my parents hooked so no when they are babysitting they like to use the boppy to feed DD. It's so much more comfortable than a regular pillow.

I didn't have time to read all the post. But I found a bobby useful with breat feeding very useful in teaching my children to sit up by themselves!! You use it for like the first 7 or 8 months very much and then your kids use it as a pillow for when the watch TV. :-)

The boppy is at the top of my list for must haves.  I use it for nursing.  I brought it to the hospital and bring it on all trips.  It helps my back.  With a normal pillow I slump over too much.  I wish I had one in my office (I've been bringing her to work with me) because I usually prop her up on my diaper bag and I end up bending toward her which is a big no no for the back.  I like it because after I nurse her it is firm enough for her to rest on and fall asleep for long periods of time.

I have also used it to prop my baby up who is 8 weeks old.  She loves sitting in it.
