Breastfeeding and no period. Normal?

Breastfeeding and no period. Normal?

Is it normal not to have had my period in 5-6 weeks, on the basis that I am breastfeeding my 9 week old baby? I had a period when she was 3 weeks + but breastfeeding was still getting established. Can breasteeding make periods stop in some people?

Hi Kate,
I'm a midwife, and yes it is completely normal not to have a period whilst BF.
Many women who exclusively demand BF do not have periods at all, and in developing countries this a used as a form of birth control - although I DO NOT recommend this!! :-)

Hope that helps?
