Breastfeeding and sex?

by Country2127, Jul 10, 2007 12:00AM
Hi I have a three month old daughter that I am exculisively breastfeeding. My question is I started birth control 6 weeks post partum but I have too many mood swings with it so I have decided to stop taking it. my question is with my breastfeeding what are my chances of getting pregnant. I want to wait until she is at least a year before I even get pregnant agian. Yes this is my first baby. ALso did breastfeeding help you lose weight? I haven't seen it hekp me yet. what do you think? Thanks!

Yes-you can and many women do get pregnant while breastfeeding. If you aren't on birth control, I would advise you to use a condom. I plan to get my non hormonal IUD again. I loved it. I can't do hormones.

I also got terrible with moodiness while breastfeeding and on pop (progesterone only) pill. But you can get pregnant so be careful if your not ready for another baby!

The others are right.  You can get pregnant while breastfeeding even if you havn't gotten your period back.  You ovulate before you get your period, so pregnancy is possible.  I also had a IUD in. (the non-hormonal one).  You should talk with your Dr. about different forms of birthcontrol if the pill is giving your problems.  I couldn't be on the pill either.  The side effects were bad.
Good luck!

If you want to wait until your DD's one year b-day before trying again, I would say use some kind of bc method.  b/feeding is not safe AT ALL (I'm the living proof of that, my mom got preggo with me while b/feeding my sister).  The only side effect of bcp I got was gaining weight (seems very rare b/c no one else gets that).

I exclusively breast fed my daughter, and got pg when she was 7 and a half months old.  I, then, exclusively breast fed my son, and did NOT get pregnant the entire year that I nursed him.

I did NOT use any other form of birth control during breastfeeding.

I did notice that the more you nurse, the less fertile you seem to be.  My daughter did not eat nearly as much as my son, therefore;  I did not nurse as much....and ended up pg.

Good luck!

We just used condoms pp while I was nursing.  Yup their a pain, but I didn't want to take drugs.

And I am very skiiny when I nurse.  I lose my pregnancy weight before my 6 week check up.  I nursed my last one to 17 months as soon as I stopped I gained 15 pounds:(

I'm nursing this one as long as I can.
