Brown discharge

Hi,
  My daughter is pregnant(last period Dec. 12) so she is 6w 2 days and she is slightly spotting brown. It is in her underware but only like the size of a quarter.
She had a mc 3 months ago.  It started the same way but was consistant spotting and was over within about 9 days.  Very stressful as you all know. She had a vaginal sonogram 6 days ago and it showed small sac and yolk.Her cervix was closed. I know the spotting could have been from the sonogram because it started the next day but it actually stopped yesterday and started again today.  She is having slight cramping.  Her HCG was 4600 1 week ago and that was up from 2 days before that.  They took blood again today so we just play the waiting game now. They are doing another sonogram on Feb. 2.  I am just worried for her and was wondering if any of you had spotting that stopped and started and it all worked out.  I would think if you were having a MC that the spotting would continue and get gradually worse.  
  I am a grandma to twins already one of which has special needs (I LOVE them to death!) and my daughter in law has one child and is also pregnant and due the same time as my daughter.   Sharing any experience with me would be appreciated.

I have had two miscarriages and I spotted off and on with cramps till I finally miscarried but I also have had two successful pregnancy and I spotted in the first trimester with them also, so there is a good chance things will work out for the best..

I have had bright red bleeding and brown spotting as well from 2wks up to 8 weeks.  Just depends on the situation.  I am now 13 weeks.

i hate bleeding so much.  it worries us all to pieces...makes no sense.  i spotted after intercourse one time, and another time around 2 weeks after O.  (Im 14 weeks now)  Maybe breakthrough bleeding?  I also spotted with my twin daughters...but there were other problems with that pg. i never misscarried though.  keep in touch with her doc, be there for moral support.  have her try to rest.  its hard to be a grandma too.  both my mom and mom inlaw were stressed to the max for my twin pregnancy, and now for this one!  they are good "friends" though at 1 in the morning when im feeling blue.  good luck and prayers for your family.

I am not positive in regards to your daughters case but I had some brown discharge after a pelvic exam and was told that if the cervix is touched or irritated during an exam you can experience brown discharge. I only have it for a couple hours though. My Dr. did tell me as well that in general if a woman is getting ready to miscarry, her HCG levels will usually be inconsistant. I have been having what feels like mentrual cramping for a week noe but only off and onn.
If her HCG levels come back normal that is a good sign!!

I don't want to bring you down cause her case could be totally different but with my second m/c.  I spotted off and on.  Maybe once a day and then nothing for 4-5 days.  I was getting ultrasounds every week.  She may want to ask the doctor why he is not doing that with the history she has.  I wish you and her the best and that everything works out.

im ttc after havin a mc on 1/22. i saw my doc today and they said that i passed everything and that my hcg level at the time of mc was the amt for 3-4 wks preg and i was in fact 8 almost 9 wks preg. that scared me but i guess since i didnt have to get a d&c im ok to ttc. all the bleeding after the mc has stopped today. thank god! i had spottin the nite of my mc and after couple hours it turned into heavy bleeding so spottin could b both good (the uterus is expanding) or bad (mc like in my case) u just have to monitor it and hope for the best. im also not trying to scare anyone :) so dont take it da wrong way.

Hi everyone,
  First of all Thanks so much for your input!  She got her levels back today and after 7 days (they were at 4600) they are now at 17,500.  The Dr. office feels that this is good.  She is still spotting this dark brown stuff.  Just a little...enough to come out on pad but not saturate or anything.  She goes for another sonogram next Thursday.  We are just going to try not to worry about it and think very positive.  She really isn't cramping to much....probably just the normal aches and pains. i had brown discharge off and on for a couple days and then it stopped and now its like im on my period.a lil bit of cramps not to bad tho.im just scared im going to miss carry.i am waiting for my blood work to come back to see what the results are.im so praying they will be good and i go back tomorrow for more blood work.please anyone if this has happend to you brown for a bit then bright red bleeding.it has gotten to a pinkish red color now and is stopping but im still scared.ill let everyone know what my test results indicate.thank you

I thought I was 8 wks 5 days pregnant.  Went to doc for 1st exam.  Did pelvic exam.  Bled a whole bunch just from that.  No previous blood or brown discharge.  Just normal preg symptoms (3rd pregnancy, no prior probs).  Same appt had an US both in and out kinds.  Could find no baby.  Did find a sac but said it looked more like 6 wks.  Had blood test and levels were at 45,000.  That was normal.  Still waiting on next test tomorrow (Monday) to see if pregnancy is progressing ok but hopefully just off on dates.  I have had brown discharge on and off since the exam 3 days ago.  I am assuming it is from the heavy bleeding at the pelvic exam time (old blood).  BUT, doc mentioned many scenarios one being blighted ovum.  I just am not sure what is going on but I am praying things are ok.  I could be 2 weeks off but I also researched that a tilted uterus skews some reports of US and could mimic 2 weeks difference (behind).  I have a tilted uterus.  I just wish the brown discharge/staining would stop.  I hope any of this info is useful to you guys.  I will post again on Tuesday (unless somthing bad happens before then) as that is when I will get my other blood work results.  Hoping for almost tripple the 45,000 number from 1st test.

Lost the baby.  It was around the 6th week even though I have had no symptoms.  HCG levels went down.  The discharge etc was just a coincidence from the exam.  Bleeding was from pushing too hard w/BM.  Good news is I can try again in 2 months.  Get a D&C tomorrow.

I am having the same problem with the Brown discharge off and on everyday I have had 2 ultrasounds and everything looks normal heart is fine and such I am 8 weeks it just gets so nerve racking not knowing why I am doing this did not do this with other pregnancies so how is you daughter doing everything going better heard anything else.

I am currently 8 1/2 wks pregnant with my first child - this is a miracle because I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome.  I have been reading your posts on the brown discharge subject and find them really informative and comforting :-)  I have been experiencing brown discharge on and off for the entire 8 weeks but last Saturday it turned Pink/red - no cramping or clotting.  My hubby and I went to the emergency room and the Dr's basically said that if an m/c was going to happen there was nothing they could do to stop it - just for me to go home and rest.  Had an ultrasound last week and everything looked great - even got to see the heart beating.  I am waiting to see my Dr, but living in regional Australia, there are limited Dr's so I cannot always get in quickly to see her because she is in high demand!  I decided to keep a record of when the discharge was happening to look for a pattern of why this was happening and it seems to be either when I exercise (only walking and aquarobics at this stage) or do a lot of bending.  I'm wondering if any of you are experiencing this and having discharge as a result?

Hope everything is going ok for everyone. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 5 weeks. I have been spotting brown every day pretty much from the 3rd week.  Sometimes the clots are very big. My hormone levels are raising normally, and I went in to get an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't ectopic since my uterus didn't feel pregnant but one of my ovaries felt larger thean normal (it wasn't ectopic).  But this spotting won't stop.  My doctor said it's old blood and some people often spot during their first trimester.  But everytime I go to the bathroom, I'm nervous what I'll find.  I have had no pregnancy symptoms either. Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum to talk to others with similar situations.

Hi everyone! I am so glad to hear that there are others with my problem. I have had a light brown discharge for 3 days now. I am 7 weeks and 5 days. It is so hard not knowing what is going to happen. I work on a labor unit so I see these things everyday, but it is different when it is you going through it. I already have one daughter and am grateful to have her but I am still stressing. I go to the doctor on april 1st so we will see. I am thankful to have found this website. Your stories have made me feel so much better no matter what happens.

I have the same thing, brown discharg, and I am so nevous because I just looked up in my book about blighted ovums and I think I might have that because of all of the brown discharge.  I am so scared.  I have already told friends and family and it might have all been nothing from the start.  I have pregnancy symtoms (symptoms) though they say this can happen and nothing will be there on your scan.  I have an appointment in an hour to find out, hopefully.  I really wanted this.

"brown or dark brown discharge" but mine is about a bit of dark black? what is that? and let me share to you that i had my boyfriend and we had a slight intercourse last april 13 or 14 or 15, 2008.. im not sure about the date.. slight intercourse because we just did it for about 15 mins or less just in and no out. and my bf didn't *** or should i say didn't squirt his material inside me.. he squirt it outside. "sorry for my words but i just want to be frank" and then i had my menstrual period at the date of april 22, 2008 and it went normal, and until now we had no intercourse or slight intercourse. Then my period came.. last May 20, 2008 my mens came out but it's not normal like the past. like i say, the color is dark brown, or should i say more likely black.. and until now may 25, i had it. i had it for almost 5 days.. please help me because im afraid.. AM I PREGNANT? I can say that I have no feelings or symptoms to be pregnant. and i had my normal menstration last April 22, 2008. "a few days after our slight intercourse". Or is there anything else that is happening to me? and can i ask.. Is it possible to be pregnant even if your partner did not *** or squirt inside you? im so much afraid. my mom will not take care of me if im pregnant.. please do help me.. i'm begging..

P.S. should i go to the doctor or should i wait for June 20, 2008 "my next month of menstrual period" to see if my mens will come back to normal? thanks for those who will read and for those who will reply and help me.. Thank You so Much...

i missed a small topic.. uhmm, is it possible that i am pregnant even thou we had light intercourse then after few days i had my normal period.. for example is, my schedule of menstrual period. the intercourse happened april 13, or 14, or 15. im not sure at the date, and then i had my menstrual period at april 22. and now we did not go thru intercourse the my menstrual period just go out like this..

and is it possible that im pregnant even thou my boyfriend did not squirt inside me?

The slight sex you're reffering to is the same as him finishing in you. Pre-*** "which is clear but you can usually see at the tip of his penis", can make you pregnant even though he didnt finish inside of you. It cant be wiped off either, his body will continue to make it until he finishes his orgasam. I cant tell for sure if you're pregnant. Getting your blood drawn is a great way of finding out right away but have you thought about getting a digital pregnancy test? because if you got preggo in April then by May it will say positive, the latest it usually takes to know is two weeks after your "period" was suppose to come. and if you got preggo in early May then it will show positive early June. Speaking honestly with you, if you're affraid of getting preggo you should take better care of yourself so that you dont become preggo. You and your boyfriend are obviously not ready for a baby so make a careful decision and take charge of your futures.

i havn't take any pregy test yet.. i think i should try one. but my strong alliby is we did not do any *** for the whole week till now after my normal period last april 22. my last period lasts for april 22-29. and after that we did not do anything.. and now when my period came, something happend. the dark brown or black discharge..it starts from may 20 till now may 25.

short saying, what is your conclusion about my condition? can you do some help or either advice... huhuhuhuhu im crying..

and one thing,, if the test i will be using results negative.. what is my problem now? i will use the preggy test that uses urine.. the one that measures my urine.. and i will post the results here.. thanks..

Dont cry, just take a moment and collect your thoughts. I feel that just to make sure, you should take a test. Take a digital test, they are more sensitive than the ones with the two lines. Since you had unprotective sex, even if he didnt finish in your vagina, you can still get pregnant. If you had sex april 13, 14, or 15 and got pregnant, it will show up on your pregnancy test. You might be having something called implantation bleeding. this is happens when you get pregnant and the egg attaches to your uterus wall and buries itself. If this is what you have then a pregnancy test will show up as postive. OR if it comes out negative, it may be something else and you will need to see your gyn doctor or regular doctor. If you are pregnant you will still need to see a doctor anyway. You have to understand that even if your period came down after having sex a couple of days before, it doesnt mean you couldnt get pregnant and still have bleeding. Instead of getting nervous or scared or crying, why dont you concentrate on getting a test to ease your mind first. Then we can take it from there. Hopefully in the future you wouldnt be so careless since you dont seem able to handle the consequences of having unprotected sex.

sometimes the tests with the lines take longer to show your results and you might go through a few before being certain. I have sex one day and two weeks later my test said positive but I had used a digital pregnancy test that actually says "POSITIVE" no matter how low my pregnancy hormones were. I did that test after taking a test with the lines that didnt show anything but what I thought might be the begining of a second line but didnt show. My cousin had told me about the digital test and I tell anyone who asks me which one is better.

what the?? so, it is possible that i;m pregnant? my friends told me that i will use the preg test after my period now.. is that right? or can i use that even i have period.. my period last's for 6 days til now.. but it's still the same color. i told my friends that i have a different color on my period, some of them say's its normal because its just a dirt, and some of happened the same thing. and one thing, i have this friend that is married and she told me that her menstruation also went like that. she have no children and they have no sex with his husband because they are busy working..

by the way, thx for the advice.. i think i will just finish my period and i will use the pregnancy test.. thanks..

I am now 3 1/2 (5 1/2 in hospital terms) pregnant. My husband and I had IVF treatment due to unexplained infertility problems and I had my positive preg test a week ago. I am a teacher and have just gone back to work this week after 2 week easter break. After 2 days back at work I had a blood spot. Although it wasn't bright red it really upset me and I started panicing. I have had very small amounts of mild brownish discharge since (nearly 2 days) and have been really worried that Im going to miscarry. I havn't had a blood spot since the first one, but its hard not to worry every time I go to the toilet as Im having all sorts of mild cramping on and off.

Having read all your comments I just thought I'd share my story so far. Im not looking for any answers, but it seems like a good thing to share. The hardest thing is that, when looking for advice, one site will say its pretty normal sign of pregnancy, whilst the other will say its a normal sign of the start of a miscarriage. Also, althought work have been supportive, I also feel like they're getting fed up of me having all these ups and downs both physically and emotionally as it has lead to a fair few days off recently. When I spotted the other night the nurses advice was to rest and obviously thats impossible as a school teahcer as the day is often very busy and stressful. So I have taken off work the last two days but am very concerned to go back as even doing a bit of housework seems to be making the discharge start up each "well nature will take its course" but then how can they possibly understand when they've not been in the position of having to go through IVF to get pregnant and then starting to spot early on. I just feel so isolated!
