Brownish spotting?

My very good girlfriend called me frantic this morning. She has been (on and off) TTC. Her period is 5 days late and she had NO signs of AF coming on. Yesterday however, she had dark brown spotting and thought is was her period but the brown spotting hasnt gone away and now she has cramps. Her HPT says negative. Has anyone every had dark brown staining? Please respond- I'd love to give her some pointers. Thanks!

Hi, I'm not sure what it could be. Could be AF starting and could be implantation bleeding. Could be break through. Hard call. I'm going through the same thing. I am on CD31, spotted a little last night and this morning pink and orangy brownish colour. Not sure what it's all about. I took a HPT 2 days ago and it's -, I'll test again Sunday maybe if AF doesn't start. I really feel like it's going to but, you never know.

Hi, I have experienced that kind  of "bleeding" in the past. More so when my period was late, I was toldit could either be breakthrough bleeding of old bloood from when I ovulated. Brown blood though is old blood, it is not active bleeding. If she is very concerned she should call her doctor, but from my experience I wouldnt think it was anything serious.

I have had that before when my period was ending but not at the beginning. (if that helps, I don't know)

I couldnt help but notice that we are going through about the same thing. I am on CD 30 and today I thought I  get full blown AF but I haven't just a little spotting, I am not even using anything for it. I took a HPT yesterday but not with FMU and it came back -, so I don't know what to think. I wish it would just come on and rear it's ugly head or go away for 9 months! How are you doing? Did allof AF show up? UMM... let me know what happens with you then I'll know what to expect maybe.?? Who knows??Good Luck!! KEndra

I also had browish spotting and my MD told me not to worry that it was old blood, she would only be concerned if it was pink or red. I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I still get brownish spotting on occasion. Has anyone else come across this? I am a little concerned due to I had a miscarraige at 14 weeks last year. Can anyone help??

Hi everyone!  This is my first posting; I've been reading many of your comments and helpful hints and let me say, the comments and individual experiences expressed sure makes a girl feel better.

Here is my situation.  I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on it.  

My DH and I have been TTC for over a year now - and now have an appointment booked with a specialist.  Though, one thing I have noticed in the past 6 months is a brownish spotting about 3 or 4 days prior to AF.  I'm wondering if this could a progesterone deficiency? It is hard for me to determine exactly when AF comes or if it's just spotting.  As well, at the end of AF I get horrible cramps for about half a day.  Has anyone experienced that?

Also - can you spot and still be pregnant?  I ovulate (take BBT everyday) around day 21 or day 22 - could this be implantation bleeding (wishful thinking of course) but it's also abit red at times.  

Sorry for the long message - very excited to one day have a baby...hard to get one's mind off of it.
