C Section wound open and bleeding

C Section wound open and bleeding

Hi I'm hoping someone has had a similar experience to me and can give me a little hope! I had my little boy by c section on 23/01/09. We came home the following Monday. I woke up Tuesday morning and whilst washing I noticed a nasty smell coming from my wound. It looked ok but I knew this was a sign of infection. Later that day the mid wife came out and I asked her to have a look, she told me the wound had opened in 2 places about 1cm each and was infected. She sent me down to A&E to have it looked at and get antibiotics etc. I was admitted over night and give antibiotics on a drip.

I was sent home the following day after the hospital re dressed the wound. That day the midwife came out (this wednesday) she commented that the smell had gone but there was alot of blood coming from the wound and that it looks quite deep. She cleaned and re dressed for me. I have had someone out everyday since to re dress the wound. There is still alot of blood and on Friday it was commented that there was now one hole that was 3cm wide. Today the midwife has come to redress etc and has said the wound is now 5-6cm wide. I am getting plenty of rest and doing everything I can to remain still and support the wound.

I am really scared that the wound will completely open up and I dont understand why it wont heal? Why is it bleeding so much?

Please if anyone can offer any advice I would be grateful. The midwife says it needs keeping a close eye on but I feel really scared surely they can't just keep re dressing it? At what point do they do something and what will they do? My husband has to go back to work next week and I can't look after my baby alone while I'm like this I dont know what they expect me to do!

I would ask the midwife to recommend a doctor, and go see the doctor immediately.  You are right that just re-dressing the wound would hardly seem to be enough at this point.

oh my goodness!  This sounds awful!  I would be going to the hospital if there are openings in the stitched areas and your still bleeding..... I mean if to just put your mind at ease, I think it would be worth it.
I don;t want to  freak you out cause its probably not the case, but a GF of mine had a similar issue (more of the bad smell ) and when they checked her out, they found gauze inside her that the Doc's accidentally left inside the incision......
I'm sure you are fine, but just be sure!
Congratulations on your new bundle and Good luck!!
