C-section incision question...

C-section incision question...

In 2003, I had my first child via c-section (medically warranted and a scheduled one).  I asked the regular questions one would ask. After the surgery, I noticed that my incision was "off to the side"... not centered above my pubic area, but half way off to the right side of my body- still horizontal. Unfortunately, I had a lot going on at the time and never asked why it was performed in that spot- I just had major surgery, a brand new baby with some breathing problems having to stay in the NICU, and an upcoming brain surgery only a month away. Anyhow... Has anybody else got an off center c-section incision from a normal surgery and what was the reason the dr gave? My surgery was not an emergency, the baby was head down, and all the things it should be...

Also, I am due to have another baby this summer. Again, I will not be able to have a regular child birth and have to have a c-section. I showed my scar to my NEW dr and she couldnt figure out why they would have done the incision off to the side. She said when she does the c-section it is centered above the pubic area and asked if I wanted it there or a repeat over the old incision/scar tissue.

What would you do- have a new cut which adds the length of scar not only internally but externally, or go over the old scar and scar tissue? What could be some unexpected "problems" from doing either way? Thanks so much. Ill answer any additional questions if my post isnt fully clear. Have a good day!

I have had 3 abd. surgeries. Two were sections and the other a tubal reversal. They each have been different. Kind of on top of each other and "kind of "in the middle. They have all trailed off to the left side farther than the right. Maybe it's the side they stand on to do surgery. Who knows. I have never heard of anybody being cut on the side though. hope this helps.

Mostly i think depending on the doctor. I have 3 incisions from sections if you can get this i had two up and down and the last horizontal!! So im sportin a t!! The first doctor did it up and down and the second just followed The third doctor said WHAT and did his horizontal..It really didnt matter to me as long as everyone was safe! You sound like you have been through alot I wish you the best and hope it all turns out well

That is really odd.  I had an emergency c-section, and was still given the low lying transverse cut.

If I were you I would request the medical records from the hospital you delivered at.  It may cost you a little bit (I got mine from when my son was born, and it cost about $20).  It provides details as to why things were done and how they were done.  It tells where they cut, how they cut, the reason for c-section, and every little step along the way throughout the process.  That may give you a better idea.

If you are able to just ask the doctor, that would be great, but sometimes doctors leave for a different practice after a few years.  So, I just wanted to present this to you as another option if that is the case.

I will be having a c-section with this baby as well.  We already have it scheduled for Feb. 3rd.

Best wishes to you,

Amanda

From my understanding, the more times you are cut in the same area, the more scar tissue there will be so if you have baby #2 from the same area and then have #3 it will be harder to get into that area a 3rd time. However, a new incision will just mean another scar. I would just go on your new doc's advice. If you're curious as to why the 1st was done off to the side, contact the dco who did it.

I had an emergency c-section and they cut me about an inch to my right of my bellybutton and on down.  I also remember that they tilted the table a little to the left of me.  I thought I would fall of the table.  I believe if meomery serves me it was because my baby was going to be born 8 weeks early and for healing reasons.  My Dr said that when they cut directly down from the bellybutton that there is more tension on the incision.  Also I am overweight so that may have something to do with it.  I was also told that I could never give birth naturally again which doesn't matter since Dr said that I couldn't get pregnant again that I wouldn't live through the next one.
