Calling all June/July mommies - GD test tomorrow!

Hi all - I'm totally freaking out about the GD glucose test I have tomorrow.  I'll be 26w4d tomorrow due 6/29.  Anyone else have this done yet?  Was it awful?  Did you puke?  Do you have to wait a long time for the results?  I'm so anxious today.  And, I really need to buy some more baby stuff! :)  Love to all.

for the three hour test you have to fast from the night before and add carbs for three days prior(you will get instructions if you have to take it).

i would skip breakfast if you can before the one hour, it will help to make the results accurate.

I'm doing the 3 hours glucose test tomorrow. I'm so anxious about it too b/c I failed the screening last Thurs. The screening was fine and I didn't get sick, though others told me they felt sick with that small amount and/or the longer test I'm about to do with more liquid to drink tomorrow. It seems the drink differs among offices, b/c my friend in NYC had orange and mine (in RI) was like non-diet sprite. I thought it tasted very sweet but fine to drink. We'll see about tomorrow though as I have to drink more of it during 3 hours, so hope I don't get sick then. Plus, I got up at 4am today b/c anxious to do the test today but they rescheduled it until tomorrow. I know there's a lot false positives with the screening, so I'm hoping I'm one of those and not actually have GD. I'm week 26, day 6 days. Good luck to both of us!

i took the three hour on Saturday, you dont have to drink more of it than with the one hour, they just draw blood more frequently to see how your body reacts.

I have had both the orange and the sprite like one and both taste gross, but its tolerable.

Dont worry if you fail the one hour, its much more sensitive than the three hour and most people pass the three hour.

You should only have to wait a day or two for the results.

Thanks for your comments - for the screen, did you have to abstain from eating/drinking for 2 hours before the test?  I don't know if I can go that long without water!

I took the 3 hour test on the 13th  and failed it.  The dr. wants me to work on my diet first and if that doesn't  work then medication.  I got my results the next day.  I had to drink this awful cherry flavored stuff--but it didin't make me sick.  They took my blood when I first got there and then every hour for 3 hours.  They wouldn't let me leave the lab because apparently walking round to much affects the results--so take a good book with you.  Good Luck

I am a July mommy to be.  When I did my glucose test I felt very sick, so I thought that meant I had gestational diabetes.  But no I did not.

I was told to eat normally with breakfast, etc before the 1 hour screening, though I wondered afterward if something I ate that morning or night before made my result high. But for this 3 hour test tomorrow, I was told to eat at least 4 servings each day for 3 days of dairy, fruits, and carbs, and avoid simple sugars like candy and cookies, though if you already eat like this then no need to add more servings. I also read online variable info about how some say don't eat more but I did follow the 3 serving per day plan. Good to hear all your comments. Thanks.

due to haviong PCOS I was prone to having gd and my ob got me into have the gd tolorance test straight up rather than the 1hr and i failed.  I had that test end of feb and was place with a diabetic educator and dietician but I have never blown out my blood readings nor did my diet change...weird huh.  I have always been very good with what I ate and drank and my ob says that the drink they gave me at the testing lab was mostlikely the cause that sent me over and I shouldnt have any dramas in the future as I am taking care of myself so well now...I have even lost another 1.5kgs and I am 30.4days preggers....I am only testing levels twice a day or every second day and the results have been great...nothing high.  I just cant wait to meet my little peanut!  The only thing my ob did warn me was that I wont go a day over dd but that may change as I dont have a full blown gd....never know, family say I will go early anyhow!  Bring it on! I'm more than ready...lol

I am taking the 1 hour test at my next appointment in three weeks.  The midwife told me to abstain from any food after midnight until after the test.  She told me to know even brush my teeth that morning.  YUCK!  Good luck to you!

I did the test last week.  I was told to fast for 2 hrs before going in to drink the drink.  It taste like orange sunkist, but bubblier.  Not bad, and I have never gotten sick from drinking it. I'm pregnant with #3.

Then I stayed at the hospital and read for an hr before I had my blood withdrawn.  Not bad at all.  So no worries.  Although I didn't have to do the 3 hr glucose test.

What happened with the glucose test this week? I was so worried after failing the 1 hour screening last week, but passed the 3 hour test this week, so I'm  not being diagnosed with GD. But is this it or do they continue to check us for GD with urine samples at OB visits like they do for protein in the urine for toxemia?
