Can I get Pregnant?

by Dilsha, Sep 04, 2005 12:00AM
Hi, I am having 10 weeks old baby and fully Brest feeding. My bleeding has stopped after 5 weeks of delivery and when I reached to 8 weeks I had brown spotting and light bleeding around 2 days. Can it be my first periods? Since I had my first sexual relationship with my partner last night (after the delivery) without taking any contraception I am really worried that I might be pregnant again. I’ve heard that breastfeeding can keep me from getting pregnant. Is this true? If it is not true is it ok if I get emergency birth control pills while breastfeeding? Please give me some advice…

If you are breastfeeding exclusively and alot you probably ok. Your body is probably just trying to start a period. I do know that if you have any spotting while breastfeeding that you need to use protection because you might start to ovulate again.

You can take the mini pill...a birth control pill while breastfeeding. There is one kind you can use while breastfeeding and it only has one of the hormones in it and not the other.(It doesn't have either the progestrone or estrogen) cant remember which one

I would get on that pill if you don't want to get pregnant again. I have exclusively breastfed 4 babies for their first year and used  no birth control and never got pregnant till the month after I quit nursing. However, I never spotted  or had a period till they were a year either so everyone is not like me.

Thank you. I would really appreciate your comments. I think that’s better to start taking mini pills as soon as possible.

You can get pregnant while you are breastfeeding.  I would use some form of birth control if you do not want to get pregnant.

I know many many many women who get pregnant while exclusively breastfeeding.  If you don't want more kids you should see your doc for birth control

This is my second baby and she is now 3 months going on 4 months and I have been spotting for these past 3 weeks or so. I had a blood test to see if I'm pregnant again this past Friday on Oct. 19th and it came out negative. About 2 weeks ago I felt a little bit of cramping through out the day and later in the evening I had used the restroom to pee. When I had wiped there was this clear thick discharge that looked like egg white. So I read online that it could mean that I was ovulating at the time and I know that the night before my husband and I had unprotected sex. So is there any chance that there wasn't enough HCG in my blood for it to be detected when I took the pregnancy test? I'm still spotting on and off and nursing. Please help! Could there be something else wrong with me???
