Can having too many d & c cause you to m/c on other pregnancy? Also, how do I go about seeing a specialist? I have had two m/c and I think the doctor could have been a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys more helpful when I got pregnant for the second time. I had never been on progestrone suppostories and it was not explain to me how exactly it works or how I had to use it. I use to push it up and walk around. I was reading that you had to use and lay down for about 20 minutes. All along it was leaking out of me, so it probably it nothing for me on this last pregnancy. Any info. will be helpful. Thank you.
i don't think a d/c can cause another m/c most m/c are unexplained and even if they can explain the m/c i have never heard one blamed on a d/c unless it was the current pg not a later one.
sorry you are having to go through all this
wish you the best

I had three miscarriages before having a successful pregnancy my fourth time. My doctor waited until I had three miscarriages before he started running different tests but I had to push for that he seriously was thinking about having me try one more time. The test that were done came back normalNormal saline flush but he thought my progesterone levels were low. So when I got pregnant the fourth time he had me come in right away and start 500mg twiceTwice-a-day a week of progesterone shots. I didn't have suppostories but shots instead. It seemed to have worked and I am not 7 weeks pregnant with my second baby and again I am on the progesterone shots. No I don't think having a D & C has anything to do with your miscarriages although if you had a D & C done and got pregnant right away that may be a problem- some doctors feel that your linning isn't thick enough for the egg to attach properly that's why they like you to wait at least 3 cycles before trying again. I always wonder if having too many D & C's caused scaring and would cause problems getting pregnant and my doctor told me that wasn't true. I hope this was a litte helpful but I am very sorry for your loss I know how upsetting it is...good luck with your next one...
I've just read your comments and it was great to hear that you have had a successful preganancy following 3 miscarriages. I have just gone through my third miscarriage in just over 15 months and am so desperate to be pregnant again. You give me hope. Tell me, how did your doctor detect your progesterone levels were low? I figured by running blood tests but was this once you knew you were pregnant? How soon did you start the injections?
Cheers Swarah
What I think happened was my doctor noticed that in all three miscarriages I lost the fetus around 6 weeks which made him think my body may not be producing enough progesterone on it's own. I know we did a lot of testing after the third miscarriage to rule out other things for example my husband and I had to have blood drawn to have our chromsomes checked to make sure neither one of us had bad chromsomes. Those test were the scariest because he said if one of us was missing a chromosome we'd have to go to a specialest and the chances of them figuring out which one to fix it was slim...So those test took 2 weeks they came back NORMAL! Then I had to drink this liquid that dyed my productive system to make sure everything looked good...it did. We tested for lupus that was normal. I don't know if this test had to do with the progesterone level or not but I could be off on the day but he had me count I think 15 days from the first day of my last cycle and go in and have blood drawn because he wanted to check to see how much of something I was producing at that time...but I can't remember what it was! That was the last test I did and then he said lets have you try and get pregnant again and as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test come in right away and we will start the progesterone shots. So first day I missed my cycle I took a test it was positive went in that same day had my first shot. Then I lived at the lab and the doctors office...I had to have blood drawn twice a week and an ultra sound once a week. They would check my HCG levels twice a week to make sure they were doubling if they weren't they would have to stop the progesterone shots because it would mean the pregnancy wasn't a viable one....You know I have no idea if the shots work different then the suppostories. My doctor never discussed the suppostories with me. I will say the doctor's office charges you for a full visit just to go in and have a shot maybe with the suppostories it saves you having to go to the doctors office???? I'm not sure. But if you think it might have leaked out that scares me because with the shots you know it's in your system. I hope this is helping you a little bit...They stopped the shots at 13 weeks with me the first time because at 12 weeks the placenta takes over producing the progesterone so at that point your body doesn't need to anymore. Now with this pregnancy it was the strangest thing I would say a week after my prime days for conception I started getting symptoms that I thought I was pregnant with was really early....I never had systoms other then missing my cycle then once the shots started I was sick all the time. But this time around I was already feeling bad...so I waited until I was about a week away from starting my period - see I'm always worried and what to get in right away to start the shots but I was afraid they would think I was nuts thinking I was pregnant that soon...So I called and said it's too early to take a pregnancy test but I really think I'm pregnant so they brought me in for blood work and yes I was! So we start the shots then! But I always wonder in the back of my mind is my body finally producing enough progesterone on it's own this time around??? They said even if it was the shots could only help....So I am so sick again all day long but it's worth it in the end!!!!
Thank you, that was very helpful. My doctor told me that I have to wait until I have 3 m/c until she can run any test. She is going by the fact that my very first pregnancy was healthy. My son is now 7 years old. I am going to ask her about the shots. When I got pregnant this last time, the first day to the dr.'s office they took blood to check my progestrone level, two days later I found out that it was a 12 but she still wanted to put me on the progestrone suppostories and that was the only time it was ever tested. Six weeks later I had a m/c. This time around I am going to be a little bit more pushy. I told her I was spotting at 6 weeks 4 days and instead of her telling me to take bedrest for couple of days, she told me that there are women that spot thru. out. I don't know but my husband thinks I should find a specialist for high risk pregnancy.
Hi Sonia. I just got home from the hospital after a d&c -- it was my second m/c but my first d&c. I actully m/c on May 9 and they said I didn't need one-- but then I beld for almost 5 weeks and FINALLY they did more tests and said that there was still pregnancy tissue in there. The doctor told me that the chance of scarring the uterus is like 1/1000 or something, so I don't think that a d&c could otherwise harm future pregnancies. My OB told me to wait 2 full cycles.... although after 5 weeks of bleeding, who knows when I'll actually get a period.
It was my second m/c and my OB asked me if I wanted to see a specialist. I have a healthy almost-2 year old. I said definitely! I can't even imagine going through this again.
A co-worker had 4 m/c and then she got referred to a specialist-- she was/is on progesterone and 1 baby asprin a day. She is due in July.
I will definitely ask my dr about the progesterone. I am very curious about the difference btwn supposotories and shots.
Thanks for your question-- it helped me with a lot of mine. GOod luck!
Sonia let us know what the doctor says about the progesterone suppositories I'm interested too on the difference between them and shots(injections). I don't know if us women don't produce enough progesterone these days or what but I sure have heard of a lot of success stories with the extra boost of the progesterone in early pregnancies!!! I also found it interesting that you miscarried around 6 weeks also that's when my miscarriages were...maybe if she could start you on the progesterone earlier...She probably only took two blood test because the numbers had doubled so she felt good about the pregnancy. Yes it sounds like the doctor thinks there isn't a problem because you have had one healthy baby already. I had a friend that had a little boy no problems got pregnant right away great pregnancy and then a year and half later tried for number 2 and could not get pregnant. I guess at the time I thought the same way everything must be okay you have one son but you know what I don't think that way as much any more because our bodies do change. After two years of trying they went to a specialest and had invetro done...she just delivered healthy twins!!!! These specialest can do so many more test then a obgyn doctor can even attempt. They found out that out of an average of 16 eggs she was only producing 4 -5 viables one and that's why they were having such a hard time! So they took those eggs and fertilized them and put all 4 in but only 2 took! Very interesting but I wish you all the best and just remember there are other options and you will have more babies!!!!
Do you know how I would go about finding a specialist? I think its my progestrone level that is too low, because both of my m/c ended at same number of weeks. I just don't think this doctor is taken it very serious.
What I might try first is switching doctors where you are because if it is a progesterone issue your regular obgyn doctor can take care of that for you. Once you go to a specialest they usually aren't covered 100% on most insurances and it can be very pricey...not to say having a baby isn't work the price but your regular doctor can help you with a pregesterone problem. A specialest is the next step when your regular OBGY has basically exhausted his efforts because he can only test for so many things and if they all come back normal and your still having problems that's when I'd go to the specialest. Your OBGYN should be able to get a list for you of places to go for a fertility specialest...I just think your regular doctor needs to run some test for you ...are there other obgyn doctors at your clinic that you could switch too and get their opinion??? Like I mentioned before my regular doctor ran I would say about 5 different tests and that's when we tried the progesterone and my next step if I was to miscarry with my daughter would have been the specialest because my regular doctor had tried everything that he could think of...The doctor may find something in your test results that may need a specialest to fix but he needs to run some test for you! I know how you feel and I can't see why a doctor can run test after one miscarriage it's not like there not being paid for the tests! What does it hurt? Let me know how everything goes....
Ashermans.org is good info regarding D&C's. It does say at this sight that there is a 40% of scarring and infertility due to a D&C. I had a D&C and wish I hadn't. It has been over a year and no new pregnancy yet. I wish you the best. There are many successful cases out there. I hope that your case is! (-:
