Can i get pregnant if i have hypothyroidism

I just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism, We are trying to concieve (conceive) for last 7 months and my doctor thinks that the reason behind me not concieving can be hypothyroidism but the thing is that my periods are regular and if i am not ovulating because of hypothyroidism then why are my periods regular and if i am ovulating then why am i not getting pregnant?

You can get pregnant with hypothyrodism if it is treated and ur hormones levels are in control.
Its good that your doctors have pinpointed that u are hypothyroid and must have started you with  throxine medicine.

SO keep taking ur medicine daily and get your levels  checked in 3-4 months.

Actually what hypothyrodism does to our body is mess with our hormones which help us in getting pregnant, so even if we are ovulating, it gets difficult to conceive with untreated hypothyrodism.

You can get regular periods without ovulating, they are not interrelated.

We tried for 6-7 months before i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I started medicine and another 6-7 months passed before I finally got pregnant!

Also, important to note, once you get pregnant, try to get ur TSH and T4 levels checked asap so that doctor can increase ur dosage of thyroxine. as ur baby will also need it then.
and thruout pregnancy ur levels need to be checked regulary to adjust ur dosage!!

I hope I was clear enough!!

Just be patient. take ur medicine regularly and keep trying!!!! All the very best to u!!....It sometimes take a while!!.. u are very young..!!! ur chances are very bright!!!!!!!

Lotts of baby dust!!!!!!!!!:)

I have a friend who had a hard time getting pregnant - this was about 10 years ago - and she then found out she had the tyroid problem.  They medicated her for it and she was pregnant within two months.  So you can get pregnant but I do believe it can cause the process to be a little harder.

It is good to know about the thyroid problem now.  Get the meds and get it regulated before you try to conceive.  Thyroid issues CAN cause miscarriage if they are left untreated.  Good luck to you.
