Can one year olds sleep with blankets?

Can one year olds sleep with blankets?

So this is just one of the many stupid things I think about while putting my baby to sleep while rocking in a dark room, with the sound of a panting dog in the background.
Can one year olds sleep with blankets?  When ds was a baby I would just swaddle him in a thicker swaddle.  In December he will be one and I didnt know what to do for warmth.  I live in Southern Cal so it isnt like I need a bunch of blankets..especially since it doesnt really get cold until Dec, and sometimes then we have had 75-80 degree weather. He is on the bigger side, I think they may sell halo sacks big enough, but I dont know if he would like to wear it, since he loves to stand and move around in his crib.  Just wondering what you all did with your kids in the winter months!

DD has always had a blanket. She is 1 now but when she was smaller I would just cover her up with a crocheted blanked because it had holes but now she has her favorite fleece blanket. She rolls around alot at night and never gets caught in her blanket. If you dont want to do the blanket you could just make sure he has socks on with a thick sleeper, that way he would be plenty warm without you having to worry about him suffocating. DD never like to be swaddled or the halo sleep sacks because she likes to be free at night:) Even though she goes to bed with her blanket covering her she never wakes up with it covering her but she has to have it to hold while she s u c k s her thumb.

Levi wears long PJ's (the ones you get from the Children's Place are GREAT!).
This way, he always has his body covered to help keep him warm. I will fold one of his blankets in half (it's soft on one side and satin on the other) and lay him on top of it. I figure that way he can "cuddle" with it if he's chilly. I've tried covering him, but he always moves around and ends up on top of it anyway (particularly when he wakes up and plays with his Baby Tad or Little Leap dolls at the foot of his crib)

I also turn the air condition up at night so it doesn't get too cold in his room (the ceiling fan keeps me cool enough at night) and in the winter, I keep the heat set at a comfy temperature. If all else fails, and it seems colder in his room than it should be...I put his humidifier in there and turn it on at night (it's not like he can get out of the crib and play with it yet). This not only helps keep the room warm, it also adds moisture to the air, which you know how winter heat can suck the moisture out real quick.

Anyway, that's just what I do. You'll have to find out what works best for you. Trial and Error...the only way to find out! :-)

I use the halo sack and honestly he moves around with it on.  He can crawl with it and stand up in his crib with it.  Plus, he sleeps better when he has it on.  He also sleeps with a receiving blanket and even though my pediatrician told me no, I did it anyway.  He doesn't get caught up in it or anything.  He likes to cuddle with it and hold it close to his face.  I think it's a comfort thing.

i think one year old is fine for a blanket. i can't remember when i  first gave edward one, but he was always ok with it. i have a fleecy type blanket for the winter and in the summer, i use lighter receiving type blankets. he also sometimes naps in our bed with the comforter, but only up to his waist. he also has a pillow in his crib. we found a really flat one and put his favorite pillow case on it. we didnt do that until he was a little over a year though.

Oh the humidifier seems good.
Ewww, haha Sorry some guy down the hall from my office just hocked up some stuff in his throat!  Haha.
So maybe I will also get the halo blanket and see if he likes it.  On cold nights I have put a thicker blanket on him and I have watched the monitor like a hawk!
Oh so when can they have pillows?

most people say 2 years old for pillows but with edward, we took a trip to colorado when he was about 15 months old and while we there he had to sleep in a pack and play. to make it more comfertable for him, i gave him a flat pillow. he loved it so much that when we got home, he wouldnt go to sleep without one. he went and grabbed the pillow off my bed and was walking around with it. so that was kind of like his way of telling me, "i want a pillow mom!" he does great with it. go with your gut, but id say 1 1/2 - 2 years old is fine.

I've done blankets with DD since she outgrew the sleep sack, which was like 6 or 7 months old, I think.  Yes, they can have blankets.  Small ones made for them.

I think gave DS a pillow around 18 months old.  It was when he started getting a little bit more broad in the shoulders.  His head was tilted downwards when he would lay on his side and it looked uncomfortable so that's when I started the pillow.  I bought a super cheap one (like $5) so that it was very thin.  A nice adult pillow would be too thick, IMO.

cameron slept wrapped in his blanket until 6 months and around 8 months began sleeping with a tiny little pillow...

That makes sense. Right now he has a crib wedge and sometimes he will place his head on the wedge part...LOL, most the time he twists around and his feet are on it.  He never really rests his head on our pillows so I guess it wouldnt be an issue until later.

the rule that I have heard is 18 months they can have soft bedding.  AJ has a blanket now but no pillow.
