Carbs

Carbs

Hi all..

Just have a question for anyone who's "been there"

For the last couple weeks, my stomach's been on edge.. I haven't thrown up, but it gets queasy 'n I just want to lie down.. I feel really hungry but don't want anything to eat.
OK, so this is pretty normal..

But, the only thing that really helps this is when I eat carbohydrates.. breads, bagels, crackers, pasta.... etc.

If I keep eating only carbs all day, I know I'm denying my body and the baby's of some essentials- and I know I'll gain alot more weight than I need / want to.

Are there other foods that will calm the stomach? (non-carbs)

Any suggestions please?
Thank you!
-Heather

(oh, by the way, I'll be at 8 weeks tomorrow)

I am in the same boat---I am a little over 10 weeks and am extremely hungry all the time--just nothing sounds or looks good. I stay sick to my stomach all day long--and forget about trying to cook--it doesnt happen. I have also found that tator tots, mashed potatos and things of that sort have helped me. Dont realy want them but its the only thing that doesnt smell and that I can eat.The crackers really dont help much either. My doctor told me to pick stuff that is salty over sweet to easy m/s--so try eating a few lay's potatoe chips when you first get up---that helps me.If you find something else let me know--anything will help.

The baby will take all the nutients that is is whatever you eat right now--so dont really worry about the baby not getting enough--its you right now thats not getting enough--

The same thing is happening to me, and I've been trying to figure out what helps. Try to take your prenatal before going to bed, not in the morning-also, that gives your body minerals.  If there is a good mexican restaurant nearby, try plain rice with REFRIED beans, I noticed that that does'n give me gas and works pretty well.  Snack on baby carrot, nuts and fruits.  Since I can't cook either because of the smell, I just eat cold food, for example bread with cheese with tomato or pickles (cucumber is better), so at least you eat something besides carbs...stuff.  There is a good website for recipes for pregnancy, but I can't remember the exact address. I'll let you know.  My np said that nausea is worse when you're hungry-and she is right-, so no matter how crappy you feel you must eat something when it hits, cause it really helps.  Let us know how you're doing, and if anyone has any idea what to do against heartburn, I would appreciate it, because it ruins my sleep.  Terrible!!!!

The only thig I have found for heart burn is to drink a glass of cold milk--It covers the stomach and stops the heartburn---at least it works for me--maybe if you dont like milk you can try yogurt---also be careful if you eat sandwiches--always heat your cold cut meat prior to eating--they say it has a lot of bacteria that can be harmful to the baby--my doctor just said to take it and warm it in the microwave for a bit before you make a sandwhich. And I agree with always keeping something in your stomach--it gets so bad when you are hungry--I seem to always be eating--but nothing is really very good!!!!

Im glad Im not the only one feeling like this. For the first few weeks pototoes were good and hot chips. Sometimes the smell of hot chips put me of and I couldnt eat them.
A friend of mine said crackers were good and Ive tried that and it helps. I cant eat bread so have to have pasta or crackers for lunch.
Im not eating cold meet at all. The only meet I eat is when my partner cooks dinner. Ive been told not to eat ham etc as it has bacteria. There was a thing on the news last night about foods pregnant women should eat, you have to watch out for listeria as it can harm your baby.
Another thing I find that helps when I have been sick is warm lemonade (sprite).

Good luck to everyone and just think this is all worth it.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!  Cold milk is the best!!!!!  I slept like a baby!!  And it's not as bad either as I thought.  I hope I can keep drinking it.
As for food, has anyone ever tried tofu?  I usually eat it for breakfast, with a little green onion cooked in butter (on days when I am not so sensitive), then put the tofu in it, brown it a little bit, or at least warm it up, then at the very end put chopped tomato in it.  With brown rice it's delicious, and very healthy.  The website I like for recipes is www.recipesource.com
Good luck!

It sounds good-I only eat tofu if its in my chinese food--right now I cant seem to cook anything---my poor husband has to do it all himself--even then I am not sure I can eat it afterward--I have become to love cereal and eggrolls--something about the salt in those that eases my stomach--Here's to all feeling better soon!!!!!!

"The baby will take all the nutients that is is whatever you eat right now--so dont really worry about the baby not getting enough--"

While stressing out about it isn't going to help anything, it really isn't true that the baby will 'take what it needs so don't worry about what you eat'.  It is still extremely important that you keep your nutrition as sound as you can and take your prenatals.

My boss was sick throughout her entire pregnancy (threw up in front of us in the lunch room :) and she still managed to have a healthy bouncy baby.  Hang in there! :)

Here is something that I got from the Learning Channel website---

-But morning sickness isn't all bad. Studies have revealed that morning sickness may actually be good for your developing fetus. A study in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology released in May 2000 suggested that morning sickness could help regulate levels of insulin in a pregnant woman's bloodstream, particularly during the early stages of pregnancy when bloodstream insulin levels tend to increase. Insulin, which is released in response to food intake, regulates blood sugar levels. As insulin levels increase in the bloodstream, more fat is metabolized. It appears that during early pregnancy, vomiting keeps insulin levels down, thus slowing fat metabolism. This is beneficial to the fetus because it ensures there are enough nutrients to fuel its early development.
