My husband and I wnet for an ultraUltra choice multivitamin/mineral Ultra choice multivitamin/mineral mature formula Ultra fresh Ultra fresh p.m. Ultra-natal sound today. We are 19 wks today! The tech told us everything looked great, but my cervix was at 2 cm! I was not scheduled to se Dr.... We left and ive worried about it. I called his office and spoke with his nurse. She spoke with him and he told us that he would check it out thourough in 2 wks, our next appt. She talked like this was no big deal... What does this mean actually??? I suffered 1 misscarriage @8 wks with D&C..... Thanks again
Are you sure it was dilatedDilated cardiomyopathy to 2 cm or was your cervix 2 cm long? It seems highly unlikely that if you were dilatedDilated cardiomyopathy to 2 cm that they would have let you leave or would have let you go home. Be patient, be persistent and don't let up until they tell you exactly what was going on.
My guess is the 2 cm long (which is still somewhat short, but vastly different than 2 cm dilatedDilated cardiomyopathy)
I agree with the poster who said that maybe they meant 2 cm long. That is fairly normalNormal saline flush.
If it was 2cm dilatedDilated cardiomyopathy (which they can tell on an internal ultrasound by the way) that would be very significant and your doctor should have been immediately notified.
They probably meant 2 cm long, but if you are worried you should call and insist on speaking to a nurse or doctor. Be sure they are actually looking at the report when you talk to them. It can be obtained right away, so don't let them tell you that they can't get it. At the very least they can get a verbal report.
Acutally they can tell 2 cm dilated by using their fingers to feel how much the cervix has opened. Just as an fyi.
Based on where you are at in your pregnancy, I would agree with the rest of the posters. I would imagine that they meant 2 cm long.
I will tell you that with my last pregnancy, I did dilate to 2cm at 29 weeks. I carried my son to 37 weeks without further dilation. They did take me off work for a day and said that if I dilated anymore, then I would have to go on bed rest. If that wouldn't have stopped it, I would have ended up in the hospital. That was my second pregnancy. Based on the response that I got from my physicians, I would definately have to believe they would have shown more concern over you being 2 cm dilated.
Good luck. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well. Please let us know what they say at your next visit.
They didn't do a digital exam (exam with fingers), because she said she didn't see the doctor. An US tech does not do digital exams.
The ultrasound machine has the capability to visualize and measure how much the internal os of the cervix is dilated, as well as the dilatation of the external os. These are very precise measurements, and I do agree that if she had been 2 cm dilated at 19 weeks, there would have been a lot of concern. They could have meant 2cm long, which is very different and not terribly off the norm.
