Cervix issue

Cervix issue

My third ultrasound to check the length of my cervix had confirmed that the cervix was short, on borderline. I did my fourth ultrasound (transvaginal) yesterday and they could not find a cervix. The doc said that either the cervix is too short or there is no cervix left at all.  After this, 2 specialist docs did the physical examination and confirmed they could see as well as feel the cervix. They are confused now why the transvaginal ultrasound never showed a cervix and are unable to diagnose the issue. Pl help if anybody has come across an issue like this?

I would go with what the specialists have said. Unsure why the u/s did not show the cervix. Do they think you should get a cervical cerclage just in case?

I am 24 weeks now. So cerclage is risky as per the doctors.

What was the reason for the doctors to be concerned about the cervix length in the first place and to offer you the ultrasounds? Have you been having contractions? In either way, until your situation is clear, it seems to me you should be put on a bedrest at the hospital to avoid premature labor.

My regular ultrasound at 20 weeks showed that the cervix length was short and doctors were concerned. I have no contractions, bleeding, no water leakage, discharge which means everything else looks normal. The only concern right now is why did the transvaginal U/S reveal no cervix but when the doctors could physically see the cervix.

As I agree with Mandy about being concerned, I wanted to tell you that I gave birth to a little girl, 1.3 pounds, at 23 weeks and she survived and is the healthiest of my 3 children. The worst illness she has had is a double ear infection - common. She had no surgeries and does not even wear glasses. I would question your specialist about things you should be doing if you cervix is so short and you are correct in having a cerclauge now - it is very risky. I have one but got it at 14 weeks. I would have thought that if they beleive your cervix is so short they would have you on bedrest or at least taking it very easy. Ask a lot of questions and take it easy.

OMG dont want to scare you if all this is happening what are you doing on the dam computer you should be in hospital if you deliver your baby now the chances of survival are very slim and any baby up to 30 weeks gestation has a huge chance of disabilities if born now go to the hospital.

When the doctors felt your cervix, did it feel to them like it was short or dialated? My Dr. could feel during an internal manual exam that my external cervix was slightly dialated.

Yes, at 24 weeks it is risky, but it is risky to not have a circlage as well.
I had a circlage at 24 weeks with my oldest son he is almost 7 now. Also with my first pregnancy had they done the circlage at 24 weeks when they initially noticed I had a problem, I most likely would not have gone on to deliver at 25 weeks... ( baby did not make it) fortunatly with my 3 year old they did the circlage at 14 weeks to avoid a problem later as it is obvious I have an incompetant cervix ... I do not want to scare you, but seriously I would talk with the specialist and let them know your concerns. I agree with other posters, you should be in the hospital on bed rest... I was in a bed tilted at a 100 degree angle.. uncomfortable but helped keep pressure off of my cervix and that was AFTER my 1st circlage, so I can't imagine why they havnt done this with you concidering you do not have a circlage in place.

BEST OF LUCK and PLEASE keep us posted.
