Choroid Plexus Cyst on u/s - please help!

Hi ladies, I am currently 27 weeks along. On my 20 week u/s a CPC (choroid plexus cyst) was found. Until today I had never heard of this. My doctor (who I saw today) told me it's nothing to worry about and that it will most likely go away on it's own and no furher testing is required. I will not have any more u/s from this point on (I'm in Canada so you only get 2) and my blood tests for screening for Trisomy 18/Down's were negative and since I'm under 30 I'm considered low risk. I can't help but worry though. Any one else had a similar experience? Thanks so much in advance!

before I write what I am about to write, please realize that everyone is different. I had cysts all over when I first got prego too. My dr. were not too concern snce it is driven by the hormnones and it all goes to normal when you give a birth and your hormone levels go to normal, but unfortunately my cysts grew too big and caused some problems with my ovaries and I lost them both. Having said that, as long as your dr. said you are ok and you do not feel any horrible pain, you are probably ok. I was just unfortunate and had problems. So, do not worry, you are far enough, even if you have to have something done. Good luck and  healthy rest of your prego!

i had a cyst while i was pregnant as well.Mine was fluid filled. I first found out at my 20 wk u/s it was 4cm then went back once a month to get it checked out and it kept growing about 4cm each time.. finally at 32 weeks it was 12cm and i had to get it drained after that it went to 5cm.. Went back to get an u/s like 4 days after i got it dranined and it grew to 10cm. well i got an u/s done at 41 wks (was obviously over due) and it was 16cm.. I gave birth vaginally everything was fine. I had a ds and he is fine... at my 6wk check up i got it checked out again and it was gone they are unsure if my hormones were keeping the cyst around during pregnancy or IF while giving birth the cyst burst. I wouldn't worry about it your doctors are smart people and they wouldn't let anything bad happen... i just wanted to share my story

I had the exact same thing with my last pregnancy! I'm glad to say she's 8 1/2 months now & is doing great! I had never heard of these cysts either. My doctor did another u/s at around 24 weeks or so & the cysts were gone! Thank God!! My bloodwork also came back fine & the maternal/fetal specialist my dr. sent me to couldn't find or see any other characteristics that would indicate any problems. I know exactly how you feel. It's VERY scary. From my research on it all babies have the cysts on their brain from the fluid, but it's alarming when they get to be over a certain size. My dd had 2 over the size. My dd was born with 3 heart conditions, (nothing real serious) but the dr.'s said it was not related to the cysts. I had never seen these cysts on my other 2 little ones, but I had the u/s after 20 wks with them. I'm sure your baby will be just fine! Ask you dr. to do another u/s to make sure they are gone just to ease your mind. They should do it since there is a reason. Let me know how it goes & if you have any questions please feel free to ask! Good luck to you!!

Will do! Let us know how it goes. I am seeing my Dr. again on Sept. 5th and will try and insist on another u/s. Also a friend of mine is doing her medical residency and she told me that the cyst is something she hardly ever even mentions to her patients! I know I would want to know! And thanks everyone for your posts and your advice!

I also just had an us at 24 weeks and was told there is a cyst in the brain cavity. Of course they say it is nothing to worry about. Yeah right!!! How do you not worry???I will have another u/s next month and if it is still there I will be sent to another doctor where they can do a more extensive U/S. Pray for me and little Blake!!!!

I just had my 2o wk. u/s and found out it was a boy.We were so excited then they told us he had a small fluid filled cyst on his brain. A genetics doctor came in and checked the ultrasound and said everything else looks fine. I am so worried, I don't get another u/s until 32 weeks. I am worried about trisomy 18 but really worried about down syndrome as well. It sounded to me that they would notice other signs if the baby had trisomy 18. What about if he has down syndrome, would there be any signs?

i am 22 weeks preg with my 4th child and was recently told that the baby had 2 cysts on his brain. i went to a specialist today and they could only see 1 cyst measuring 11mm, meaning the other one has already gone! it is very scary cos u cant help but wonder if the baby will be ok.  this is not directly linked to  "down syndrome"  but does put you at a slightly higher risk  for my age group (27)  there is 1 in 1000 chance of birth defects, but with this cyst it puts me at 1 in 750. i was offered a test that would confirm, but the odds of miscarriage is 1 in 200 so i really think as hard as it is to wait, you have a far greater chance of miscarriage, then you do with anything even being wrong with the baby!  hoping everything turns out for you all and for myself :):)
