Clomiphene challenge test.

by cant, Feb 13, 2005 12:00AM
I am 28, have an eight year old daughter, a HX of one definite miscarriage and one possible a couple years ago, I found out thatI have an an elevated FSH of 20. I passed my clomiphene challenge test and never understood whatthat means to my fertility issues.  I would like to know more about this.. I know what it means if you had a bad result (poor or no egg reseve), but what does it mean if my ovaries returned the FSH to baseline like they were supposed to??? I saw a fertility Dr. and he agreed to do two IUI cycles and, to his amazement, I ovulated and all that fun stuff. I did not get pregnant. My husband has low volume, count and motility, and I had read that the best way to defeat this issue and the issue of poor reserve was ICSI. When I brought this up to my physician, he did not want to consider this and was pushing me to get a donor. I saw that I am capable of ovulating and my husband doesn't even want to consider a donor. Can anyone tell me what it means if my clomiphen challenge test was normal and also soes anyone know of a fertility Dr. that is willing to help me and stop worrying about his/her statistics? We are willing to travel. Thanks!

Hi. You are in tx with a RE? I am surprised he/she didn't discuss this option with you. Did they give you a reason why? We used ICSI for both of our IVF cycles. The 2nd worked and we now have a 15 month. We had to do ICSI b/c of failure to fertilize as side from very poor egg quality. The failure to fertilize means..the sperm and egg do not penetrate each other. That is why they forse the process via ICSI. Keep us posted and good luck. There are alot of great web sites designed to couples going through advanced infertility. Off the top of head can't remember the sites. Do a google search. Oh, if your in the northeast area. Boston IVF was Great!! When we had treatment with them they were ranked #5 in country at the time. I have many friends who had babies through them!!

i've heard that icfi is pretty good in that situation, but never tried it. I was in a similar circumstance... hubby had low count and low motility- I have Polycystic Ovaries... we tried Clomid a couple of cycles and pretty much obsessed over when to bd.... and guess what- none of it worked. You know what did? I quit stressing out about getting pregnant and focused on making other aspects of my life better- and guess what- I'm 12 weeks pregnant.

I hate to say "quit trying, it will happen" but it's the only thing that has worked for me.

Oh- and if you want to try  ICFI and your doctor is discouraging it- you should see someone else. :o)

We're looking into other Dr's right now. Who did you see in boston??? And having poor egg quality, how many eggs were they able to retrieve??? Do you mind if I ask what you FSH was? And how much stimulating hormaone they had you on??? I'm full of questions aren't I. We have decided that we are willing to travel to have a good Dr. so we are looking nation wide. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi. FSH was not bad..the highest was only 9.4. I only ovulate 3-5x's a yr. Last yr..2x's and the 2nd one I got pregnant. I am curently 13.6 wks no tx's. As for poor egg quality that was dx from the retrieval. I would actualy go into ohss and end up on bed rest for 10 days. They would get 28-30 eggs..bad quality. On the first cycle of IVF 28 removed..only 3 of "semi-good" quality and ICSI'ed. All three of them arrested at 2-cell stage. No tranfer. The 2nd IVF 32 retrieved and 13 ICSI and 2 were good quality and made it to tranfer. One is now my 15 month old girl. I was again on bed rest for 2.5 wks b/c I looked as though i was 5 months pregnant from all the fuild in my ovaries. It was terrible at the time. So my issue was the follicular development(excellent, as notes by 28 eggs) and the qaulity of the eggs that developed. Then the failure to fertilize. That is why we did ICSI. I just loved Boston IVF. My Dr was Dr Steven Bayer. They do have web site...bostonivf.com. Any questions...just ask and I'll help if I can. I have been there!!
