Cloth Diapers

Cloth Diapers

I just want to see if any of you out there use the NEW and IMPROVED cloth diapers that are on the market today.  I have several girlfriends who use them and say they love it.  I also have some that just don't think it's such a great idea. My DD is going through 9 diapers or more a day. I try to let her stay longer in the wet ones, but I feel bad b/c they get sooo bulky.  Plus I am still buying diapers for my first DD until we decide to train her (which will be very soon) and so buying diapers for two can be expensive. I am a full time stay at home Mom so I just thought I would try them out at least while I am at home and then if I really have to I can use regular diapers while out and about. I just wanted some opinions and reviews I guess from others that have used them and which brands seem to be the best!

Never heard of them....the cloth ones seem like they may be more uncomfortable when they get wet.  Also, wouldn't you have to buy a bunch and constantly be washing them?

I would only use cloth
new and approved or old
we only have so many resources and it seems pretty wasteful to throw away diapers

do we wear disposable underwear (you know I am not asking you just saying!)

I don't have children yet, but my sis used cloth for the first few years.  She had the older ones where you "pin" the diapers with a stretchy device (its hard to describe), then snap a plastic pant around it.

Honestly, they were a bit of a pain (I changed a few) but the new ones are easier (think they even have velcro). I like the idea of not being wasteful so will probably try them if I have a baby.

You need a diaper service though, they deliver a certain amount each week, you leave used ones in a bag for pickup.  Washing all those would be a real pain!

Thanks to all! My friend uses them and loves them! She has 12 and uses 6 a day and does laundry every other day, well unless she has a bad accident or something. But I am just soooo tired of buying diapers and wasting money. It can get so expensive. I hear that the new ones aren't as bad as the ones that my mother used on me. They have removable liners and are lined with soft sued and have buttons or velcro!

I love using cloth.  We switched a few months ago, and I will never go back.  If your are looking for simple, I recommend BumGenius.  It is just like using a paper dipe, super easy.  We use prefolds, which are the kind you fold, and secure with a snappi, which is like how you hold an ace bandage.  We also use the All In Ones, like the bumgenius, when we go out.  A great site is

so much useful info, and the women are really nice.  You could try looking on craigslist for some used ones, that way your not shelling out a bunch of money without knowing if you love them or not.  Give them a try!

I don;t recommend a diaper service
those chemicals are harsh
if you have a washer and bleach - you are fine
I have always washed and dried them!
