Cold Sores

by mmg9603, Sep 09, 2004 12:00AM
I am 18 weeks pregnant and have developed a nasty cold sore. I normally put carmex on it and sometimes take Alclovir. I am trying just the carmex but was wondering if this cold sore is dangerous to my baby??? Please let me know and then you may use this as an open forum!

not positive that it will affect your baby, buti really don't see why it would you could have developed it from a fever or like me, i sometimes develop them when i'm craving something really really bad and i don't eat it. an usually when i do eat whatever it is that i was craving it goes away. weird huh?\
but don't take my word for it, ask your dr.

I have them all the time. Ib had them through the entire preg with DD. I don't think they can be harmful. I am glad you and baby are doing well I have been wondering where you were.

I use Abreva and it works better than anything I have ever tried and I get a coldsore, just by saying coldsore (so I will probably have one here in an hour or two! :)). It is a little expensive, but it is over-the-counter and it clears up in just a day or two.

i know the doctors say not to let people with cold sores kiss the baby because of them being contagious but i don't think the will hurt the baby while your pregnant but the medicine (taken internally) might do more harm than good
