Coming off of Depo Pervera and trying to get pregnant

by Vysha, May 09, 2007 12:00AM
I have been off depo for 4 or 5 months. My last injection was suppose to be on January, I did not take it. I told the doctor I wanted to get pregnant again so she told me not to bother taking the depo shot. She gave me the pill instead to develope a regular period so incase I do become pregnant it will be easy to calculate the due date of the baby.I took the birth control pills right away. well at the end of January and I spoted a little but didn't have a full menstraul because the depo was still in my system. February the spoting was more heavy like a mentraul (7days). March I actually had a period and it ended on the 27. my husband and i had sex like three days later. April.....no period and now beginning of May....no period.I stop taking the pill after March because i was hoping that My husband and i did conceived, i did not want to harm the baby. i waited untill i was a week late to take the pregnancy test and it was negative.so i waited two more weeks which make me three weeks late, the test still comes out negative. my breast are tender, fatigue, weight gain and nausea. my question is do still have the depo pervera in my system? if so how long will it take to clear out?

I came off the depo pill in February of 2006 (was supposed to get my shot and didn't).  I didn't take any pills - and automatically began getting my period.  Several of my periods were up to 3 weeks late - and I had all the symptoms of being pregnant (nausea/swollen & sore breasts).  Apparently that is one of the side effects of coming off the depo shot!

We weren't trying to conceive - however we weren't trying not to...and I became pregnant in October of 2006 (so 8 months after my last shot).  Unfortunately that ended in an early miscarriage in November.  I did get pregnant again right away in December 2006 & am now 22 weeks pregnant with a little girl!!!

So...for me it took about 10 months after coming off the shot to become pregnant with a successful pregnancy.  I'm telling you though - I was CONSTANTLY thinking I was pregnant right after coming off the depo shot.  It really throws your body for a loop!

I wa son depo two separate time, once for 3.5 years and the second time for only 6 months. Both times it took me roughly 12 months to get pregnant. It can take up to 18 months or more to get pregnant.

Having the bCP's may change that time frame for you, but i have not had any experience with them, so I cannot offer any insight into that part of your question.

Good luck!
