Complex Cyst and Multiple Miscarriages

Hi Everyone!  I'm new to posting here, but have read through lots of questions and answers and figured you'd be able to help me too!  I'm 25 and my DH and I started TTC in October.  I got pregnant in November and miscarried at 5 weeks and 4 days.  I got pregnant again in February and miscarried at 4 weeks and 4 days.  I didn't have to have a D&C either time.  I had an ultrasound last week and they determined that I have a complex cyst on my left ovary.  My doctor (I use my Family Dr for everything) is referring me to an OB/GYN for additional guidance and follow up.  So I'm wondering if this cyst could have had something to do with one or both miscarriages, depending on how long I've had it.  I don't know any details about the cyst, other than it's there.

TIA~Jamee

Jamee,
I am sorry for your losses..
However, i dont know anything about cysts and miscarriages.  I do know that there could be several reasons why you are having early miscarriages that the ob/gyn will be able to help you with..  Have you had bloodwork done to measure your progesterone??  are you aware of your cycles and when you ovulate??

Your cyst may be the problem (but i am not sure)

Good luck and i hope they uncover what is wrong and can fix it for you!!

Good luck

I am so sorry for your losses. I have an Aunt and a Cousin who had cysts and kept having MC. THe obgyn told them that is what the problem was. However, maybe not in your case. Best thing would be to ask the obgyn. He will be able to tell you better. Again I am so sorry for your losses.

Staci thanks for the comment back.  I have to have some bloodwork done on CD 3, though I don't believe my hormones levels are included in any of those.  Hense why I'm excited to go see an OB/GYN instead of my regular doctor.

I'm very aware of my cycles and when I ovulate so I know that I'm ovulating and my LP is not too short.

My hunch is that this is the cause of the last one for sure, not so sure about the m/c in December.

Thanks again :)

For starters i just wanted to say i am sorry for your loss... Secondly about the whole cyst thing. I am 36wks pregnant and i have a cyst on one of my ovaries and found out it was there during my 20wk ultra sound i didnt know it was there so i am not sure if it was there before i got pregnant or not. As far as i know and was told having a cyst on your ovary does not impact the ability to concieve (conceive) and keep the child because the cyst doesn't effect a child inside BUT i could be wrong that is just want my doctors have told me. I would look deeper into why you had these miscarriages maybe something else is wrong. And if anything you can always get the cyst removed and once fully recoverd you can start your family over again =) i dunno if this helped you out but i hope so.. God Bless and Good Luck!

Hi, I too had a complex cyst of a very good size. It was noted on an ultrasound a year before I got pg. and it went away on its own. That isnt uncommon even for complex cysts. I was very concerned that It would interfere with ttc or getting pregnant and staying pregnant.
That wasnt the case, I am a healthy 6 months pregnant.
I agree with the earlier posts...get bloodwork!!!!!!In my case my 2 mc's were from low progesterone!
Have them check that out, I asked the first time around and they didn't...now I wonder what would have been with the second pregnancy.
Good luck. Sounds like getting pregnant isnt the problem at all. :)
Let us know what you find out at the OB/GYN!

I also just had my second m/c (about 2 weeks ago). my dr.'s going to test me and my husband for what could be causing the m/cs. i definitely think it's a good idea for you to get tested too. i'm having bloodwork done and an x-ray of my uterus. i don't know about the cyst though - i had a cyst in one of my ovaries during this pregnancy (i was on letrazol (used like clomid) to help ovulation) and they think that's what caused the cyst(overstimulation of the ovarys or something), but when i asked the dr. if this could be harmful to the pregnancy he said on the contrary, he said it would help it along -i have no idea what that means and since i m/c anyway didn't ask too much else about it. but he definitely did not seem to think that the cyst had anything to do with it. i know that a polyp in the uterus can make it difficult to get pregnant and keep a pregnancy, but don't think a cyst in the ovary can/will. Good luck and i hope you find out what's causing your m/c soon and are able to treat quickly!! Onwards to a healthy pregnancy!!!

Thanks Niki, but there are more than one type of cysts also.  Functional and Complex.  I have a complex cyst which from what I've read, affects a woman's hormone levels, estrogen, progeterone, etc.  That's why I was thinking that might be the cause.  The doctors are going to consider all options definitely, just trying to self diagnois myself :)
