Concern about weight gain

by lfb, Mar 28, 2007 12:00AM
I am concerned about how much weight I have gained this month.  Last month when I went to the doctor I had only gained 2 pounds.  Now I have gained 9.  I have an appointment Thursday, but all of the sudden feel huge.  I am 19 weeks and think I gained alot between my 4-5 month with my son.  Is it normal to gain this much in one month?  I never thought I would be concerned about being too big with this baby because just last week I wasn't showing, but now I feel too big!  Is anyone else feeling the same?

it happens, i lost weight and then gained a HUGE amount in one month, then in the next month gained only 4 pounds, i think you see variation from month to month so its nothing to be alarmed about. I know from the pregnancy books i read that there are certain months when the baby will double in size fairly quickly so that could explain weight gain too.

For me, it was that i got my appetite back after 4 months of having none and i ate everything in sight! But that slowed down and now i cant eat much before i get full so my weight gain has slowed :)

i have heard 10 pounds per trimester is average, but it varies, try not to worry you are doing fine.

I feel the same way. I'm going to the dr now every two weeks (I'm 31 weeks) and I've gained 6 lbs since two weeks ago. Luckily I have my appt today and I'm going to bring it up. Through out the whole pregnancy I gained alot of weight between each monthly appt and he has never said anything to me. I went up to 170 lbs with my daughter and I had her at 36 weeks. I'm already at 164lbs and I have 9 weeks to go yet. This is freaking me out. I'm getting to big for my maternity clothes! I'm hoping this happens to other people!! Good luck to you!

I am 32 weeks and I have gained a total of 30lbs now.  I keep having big jumps in weight.  I go every 2 weeks and I gained 4 this 2 weeks and 6 last 2 weeks.  Dr. said it was from swelling for me and nothing to worry about but I am worried about having to loose all of this weight.  I have out grown my maturnity clothes too, but I don't want to buy more with only 8 weeks to go, but I am going to have to.

Weight gain seems to be the bane of pregnant women.  I was told that I should gain between 10 and 20 lbs because I started at approximately 200lbs (stupid tumor kinda messes up how much I was when I started).  Well I don't think that is going to happen, I've already gained AT LEAST 12 lbs.  Meh, I eat as healthy as possible, and with my other two children I gained between 30 and 35 lbs.

I am 26w3d and I have gained 30 pounds. I dont really know where though. My butt is a little bigger, but I know my tummy couldnt be holding all of the rest. I feel like it is growing everday. It hurts! I went to the doctors last Tue and then again on Thur for a follow up and I gained three pounds. IN TWO DAYS!!! I cant keep that up. I was only around 105 to start with, so 30 pounds is a lot of strain on my body. And still so much longer........

Between my 4-5 months I gained 8pounds.  I'm 27w1d and have gained 37 pounds so far.  I started out at 137 and in a size 6 and now holy cow I'm 174.  I managed to only gain 6 between my 5-6month and so far I am at a 4 pound weight gain between 6-7months go to doctor next week and i"m sure it will be 5pounds.

I only gained 25pounds with my daughter 2nd child.  With my 1st I gained 60pounds, he was a boy.  I'm thinking I gain more with boys then I do with girls.

Aw, weight is such a tough thing.  I think Dr.'s should be a little more gentle with this one.  I lost and did not start gaining till 6 months, and then it was only 2 lbs., but I had a few visits where I gained 5 lbs. in 3 weeks.  My Dr. was okay though since I had such a slow start, did the same with my son.  I started to think I was going to balloon out too, but it slowed down and I actually lost some weight at my last visit.  I put on 18 lbs. total with this one so far and am now going down, 23 with my last, and they are both boys.  I go in today to see how I'm doing, but am not concerned at this point since I'm being induced tomorrow.  I have a friend who put on around 70 lbs. with her last one though and she lost it just fine, just in time for my wedding 4 months later.  I wouldn't worry, weight comes on in spurts, it's a good thing to gain for your baby.  Good luck and congrats!

I gained a lot of weight right away, then at my 28 weeks apt, I had only gained 2 pounds, which was a relief... now the dr. says to start expecting about a lb a week (so 4 lbs at my 32 weeks apt)...

I have gained a total of 30 lbs and I am only 29 weeks.

With my first I gained over 65 lbs, with my second I gained around 40 lbs.  I'm hoping not to go over the 40 lbs again.  I started at 128 lbs and I'm 5'7" tall.

Both my first and second weighed 8 lbs.

It's different for everyone.

Yes, same exact thing with me. I was worried about no weight gain just 2 weeks ago, and now I've gained 8. I am really looking pregnant all of a sudden, too. Baby must be going through a growth spurt.

This is my first pregnancy and I've been totally paranoid about how much weight I gain only because I don't want to have a hard time losing it all when I'm finished.  I eat when I'm hungry, keep it healthy except for dessert I will sometimes have (but try to watch portion on it) and drink tons of water.  I lost weight at 9 weeks, then at 13, gained 6 from my 9 (so about 2-3 lbs only).  BUT, I was weighed for a fitness test a few days before my dr's appt (I had to do the weight thing for joining this club, even though they knew I was pg - it didn't mean anything) and if I went by that, I would have gained 11 lbs.  I tried to figure out how I lost 5 lbs in a few days, and I came up with the fact that before I weighed in at the club, I had about 64oz of water that day and hadn't gotten rid of it yet.  Plus, it was in the middle of the day, and my dr's appt are in the morning.  There's a lot of factors that play into a few lbs here and there...if you're gaining 10 at every visit, then you may have a problem, but remember to alot a little extra leeway for water and undigested food, etc.  I asked my dr and he said some people will gain a lot, and then not gain for a while, and then jump again.  The whole picture is the main thing to look at.  Good luck!  Oh, and 'm now almost 16 wks, and praying that my next appt I don't weigh to much (most importantly I want a healthy baby, but you know what I mean).  I go to Chicago this weekend to meet up with friends, and then dh and I are going to my parent's house in another state for Easter weekend...then dr's on Monday.  I'm really going to have to watch what I eat...lol.

was it easy for you to lose the weight gain  - I mean the 65pounds and the 40pounds.  With my daughter I only gained 25-could have been because I was 17.  At 29 I am worried that it will be so hard to loss the extra weight I am gaining 37pounds only 27w1d

by lfb, Mar 28, 2007 12:00AM
Thank you for your advice.  I gained 37 with my son and was hoping to be under that this.  I am much heavier to start with this time. I am 5'8" and weigh 158.  I just feel so big all of the sudden. Even my three year old told me last night that my tummy is really big!  I know it is going to get even bigger, but I don't remember it being this big so early the first time.
