Hi there Betty...

To my knowledge:
Textbook is 14 days before your next period... In a normal 28-day cycle, that happens to be 14 days after the last as well...

However, some women have short luteal phases (that phase between ovulation and the next cycle), so you may ovulate later...

I'm not an expert by any means, but maybe their calendar took other factors into account?  Are your cycles pretty regular?

Ovulation varies for everyone.  I've always gotten my period on day 28 - not a day sooner or a day later.  But I've ovulated on days 9 - 13.  When I got pregnant in August I ovulated on day 11.  To cover your bases, you should start trying several days  before the 14th.  The time BEFORE you ovulate is your most fertile time.  Once you ovulate your cervical mucous turns glue-like and sperm can't swim in it.

So basically they are WAY off, that would be like 2 weeks late right?  As for whether or not i am regular, I just got off the pill about 8 weeks ago, had one period a little late but sort of right on time...if you can understand that.  (taking into account getting back on track from the pill) I feel a dull ache in my right ovary area, do you think that could be the egg?

Some women actually ovulate other times in their cycle, sometimes twice. It's really hard to pin point unless you have testing by a doctor. Other then that, nothing is really 100% reliable. I really don't know when I O. I guess by date, I can't tell by cm, it never gets to the stage where it can stretch for 10 inches that's for sure but it's alway plentiful. I actually read that you can o right after AF and then again so who knows. All you can do is babydance as much as possible. The rule of thumb is 14 days before the start of your next period, this is only reliable if your periods are like clockwork. Good luck

yes.  it started around the 14th...so that is when i started taking the robitussin...it sort of feels like a bubble of air, causing a bit of pressure around where my ovary should be...any ideas?

Do you mean a dull ache mid-way through your cycle?  When I ovulate it, I feel it.  It is a dull ache for me.  An ache that develops around day 9, then feels stronger every day until I release the egg.  Then the ache goes away almost immediately.

I am right now trying to determine when I ovulate so I can get pregnant.  You mentioned that a doctor can test to find out when you ovulate?  Do you know what kinds of tests they do?  I really have no clue when I ovulate.  My menstrual cycle seems to be about every  35-37 days. at least I think so I am kind of guessing.  I have just now started keeping track.  I do have a period once a month but they seem to very by a day or two.

Hey toodles29 we seem to have a lot in common...age, cycle etc.

Um, that egg white cm stuff that stretches for miles...I don't recall ever having that, I think i'm ovulating now because of the pressure i feel in my right lower abdomen, but the cm hasn't changed.  Not that i have noticed anyway.  What else should i be looking for?  Are your boobs supposed to get tender when you ovulate?  (they are, thats why i ask.)

I am pretty dumb with all of this stuff so any help is greatly appreciated...

Doctors can run some easy blood tests to make sure you ARE ovulating - like a progesterone test (on day 21, I think).  They can go over with you what the signs of ovulation are, and see if you have any.  They can check your cervical mucous at the time you suspect ovulation, to see if you have the pre-ovulation cervical mucous.  And if you get really desperate, like me, your doctor can do a vaginal ultrasound to check for maturing eggs.  My doctor was able to measure the most prominent egg and estimate when it would be released.

Of course, there are the over-the-counter ovulation predictor kits.  Some aren't all that expensive, like "Answer".  The directions will tell you when to start testing, based on how long your cycle usually is.  It's just a test strip that you urinate on.

Hey

Are you trying to get pregnant for the first time too?  How long have you been trying?  My husband and I have been trying for a couple of months now.  Are you 29?  You know I haven't paid much attention to the exact day of my ovulation before because I wasn't trying to get pregnant but I do have a dull pain and a little white sticky looking discharge occassionally I wonder if that could be the egg?  My periods usually last 5 days and are light.  Betty77 tell me more about yourself
