Okay, now I'm confused again. My numbers were consistently good yesterday, but we got home late last night, 3 hours after my last snack. I thought about having a snack right before bed but it was so late that I decided to skip it. I woke up this morning with a level of 105. My highest yet. I made 2 pieces of toast with pb and a cup of skim milkBreast milk Breast milk jaundice Lactose intolerance Nipple discharge - abnormal (have had this breakfast before with no problems) and when I checked my levels they were 123. But I ate my breakfast and went back to bed. I wasn't ready to get up yet, but I was starving and feeling guilty over the 105. I thought eating something would help bring my numbers down. Is all of this because I skipped my bed time snack?
Hey! I have had this happen to me before. And it was because I skipped my snack before I went to bed. Also, try to make sure you eat protein with your bedtime snack because it really seems to help level it out. Like last night I ate a snack with a boiled egg. Not a great combo but....... I have eaten snacks as late as 11:00 pmPremenstrual syndrome Relieving pms thinking they would make my sugars high in the mornings but it is just the opposite. As far as the breakfast goes it may had just been high because your fastingFasting glucose tolerance test Glucose test - blood was a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys high. It will take a week or two to figure out how food effects you and it is funny how you can eat one thing one time and it be fine but the next time it isn't. You may find yourself a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys sensitive at breakfast. I find the most I can eat is 1 carb choice which is 15 gramsGram stain of skin lesion Gram stain of tissue biopsy and a couple protein choices. I usually do not even eat the full 15 at breakfast. Did they give you any literature when you went to the clinic? Also, it is good to find carb choices high in fiber because she told me I can subtract the fiber from the carbs. Say for instance, I eat a grapefruit, It has 20grams carbs but 10 grams fiber. I subtract the 10 grams fiber and that leaves me 10 carbs. So it leaves more room for me to eat a little more. Like Stacy said you want to make sure you enough carbs. Do not feel quilty about any of your #'s. You will figure it out. I know I have been saying i am going to pig out today but I am already feeling guilty before i go so who knows! Happy Easter! Danielle
Thank you so much for answering on Easter! I am feeling guilty, but keep telling myself I didn't eat anything bad. I will be diligent about the bedtime snack from now on. And I always have a carb and a protein, so obviously I really need it. It does show me though that I do need to be watching what I eat and if I had passed the test on a good day, I would've had high sugar at times (or a lot) and never known it. This truly is a guessing game. I don't like that. I like consistency. I was thinking that if I do okay with a certain meal, I can have it without testing from now on because I know it's fine. I have a hard time believing the breakfast wasn't okay where I've had it before and been fine, I think it was the snack, but now I'm unsure. Stinks! I don' think if you have one piece of pie it will be bad, even if you are slightly elevated. You have been sooooo good and your numbers have been awesome. You may surprise yourself and still be normal after the pie. I mean how much worse can pie be than the birthday cake and ice-cream you had that time. That was you, right? Ds's birthday party?
Debra,
I think you are going to notice some day to day variations in your numbers, regardless of what and when you eat. As long as your numbers remain good most of the time, I wouldn't sweat it very much at all, especially since you were just barely out of the normal ranges on your test to begin with.
Sounds like you are doing very well overall, and have made a good start!
Thanks. I appreciate your comments. This is all so foreign to me that I worry about every little thing (not that I don't normally!). I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Your words were comforting.
Well, needless to say I pigged out. Dressing, corn dressing, cheese potatoes, peas, turkey. ham and a big peice of chocolate pie! I took my #'s 2 hours afterwards and they were 133. So yea, they were high but not real high and I got full and ate a good dinner so i do not feel too guilty about it. I figure heck, 1 splurge in 10 weeks isn't so bad. I am fixing to go get a little exercise and that should help. Hope all is having a great easter!
That's not bad at all! For all that and to be only 13 points over. I wouldn't feel bad either. You'll go right back to your routine and you deserved a treat. Sounds yummy too! The dietician I saw said that at your shower, it doesn't count. Not to even check numbers that day. And if you have high levels 4-6 times a month, you are still doing fine, so that goes for both of us :o) I tested after lunch which was an omelet with cheese, mushrooms, peppers, onions and 1 1/2 pieces of wheat toast with maybe 3 bites of homefries (we went out), I was 107, so I'm heading back down and that feels better. Thanks so much for all your help. How many weeks are you again? Oh, do you always have some protein with your fruit? Thanks.
LOL. I remember the first few weeks of trying to adjust. I learned one major thing- NEVER SKIP SNACKS :o) . It was hard getting used to eating that many times a day. It's weird when it's a "have to" and not a "want to" isn't it?
don't beat yourself up. Your numbers weren't that high. Certainly not high enough to do any damage to you or the baby. As a matter of fact my dietician would have considered yours to be within "normal" range. She tells me the goal is not to be above 130 2 hours after I eat or below 90 when I wake up.
I almost always add a protein in with my carbs. Especially with the morning snack because if I don't I end up with low sugar before I'm ready to eat lunch.
Hang in there- you have what? 9 weeks to go? Are you starting to get really excited?
Thanks, I just took it again and it was 100 so it went down good. YOur #'s sound great too. I have found if we go to Sonic I usually get a grilled chicken salad and an order of fries with cheese and I do good with that. If I eat just a salad I am hungry in an hour. Sometimes I eat protein with my fruit but not always. I do really well with fruit, it hardly affects me. My husband was picking on me all day saying my sugars were going to be over 200, I told him I hope not I would freak! I am 36 1/2 weeks and counting. I hope he comes 2 weeks early like my first one. I so want to be able to breathe again! :)
Stacie, what happens if you have low blood sugar? Yes I have about 9 weeks to go and I'm still feeling kind of numb. It doesn't seem real. We are waiting to do the baby's room until he's here because I'm superstitious, so my house doesn't look any different than normal.
Danielle, wow your numbers came down fast. That's great. If I were to check my numbers after my mid morning snack of fruit, it would be one hour later right?
And to both of you: we weren't told when to sign up for lamaze and now are left with a choice: We can take the classes for 5 weeks, 2 hours a week (Monday nights) ending on May 16, I'm due May 31, or we can do one day of 8 hours on May 7. Have either of you taken the classes and do you have a recommendation on which type is better?
If you were going to check your snack #'s I would check an hour afterwards because it is not going to be a heavy meal. That is if you want your peak #'s. But for the meals do like your doctor said. She has you doing 2 hours.....right? I never took lamaze classes. With my other two I just went in there and told them to give me my epidual and wake me when it was time to push of course me epidural did not work quite right with the last one and I felt all my contractions! Needless to say they kept telling me to breathe because I was holding my breath! I have heard it is helpful to take them though.
If they get low I start to feel light headed, i start to tremble and break out in a cold sweat.... I HATE IT!! :o) It doesn't happen to me very often, but a couple of weeks ago when my OB changed my meds it happened a couple of times until I figured out how to eat with the new medicine... that probably doesn't happen with you though huh? Since you aren't on any medicine?
Nothing set up? Wow. I already have the crib (unassembled) in my room and the carseat and have bought some stuff.... I'd never make it to 36 weeks without buying something...
We have stuff people have given us, but it's all at my dad's house. Nothing is at our house. I know it's extreme, but if that room was set up and god forbid I didn't come home with the baby, I'd have to sell my house. This way, there are no memories beforehand.
i know what you mean. i've had that thought about the crib in my room.. you know- the "what if" thought that never entered your mind before you had a miscarriage... that and I just bought some baby blankets from ebay... and i'm thinking- please don't jinx it, please don't jinx it.
oh and on lamaze- never did it- always have had c-sections. going to have one this time..
